100 Days in Misery (Dev please read)
100 days in misery and I have gone to the top of Timber wolf mountain to die, now at 22% condition. As a long time interloper player, I enjoy the challenge of misery but with broken body debuff it turns it from survival game to dead man walking simulator.

Can I suggest changing Broken Body to only being able to regain 1 or 2% condition a day. At least it would give us a chance at surviving. As it currently stands I, and I expect a lot of interloper players will only do misery mode once or twice as it's basically pointless unless you have a death wish.

Counterpoint: A lot of interloper players, myself included, find interloper pointless because it gets so easy in the late game that it becomes too boring to bear. I haven't had a character die since 2018 and, until the DLC, I had never played a run longer than 140 days because there was nothing left to accomplish by that point. I look forward to seeing what I can accomplish and how long I can last in misery.

With 1742 hours of play time, I do kind of concur with your point. I had a character on interloper at around day 1600 prior to the save file change a while back and so couldn't play that character anymore. Hence I do find interloper mode rather easy. Not bragging just a fact from to much time playing The Long Dark :)

But misery is a bit pointless as you know you are going to die. Hence my suggestion of regaining 1% condition a day. That still retains the challenge whilst giving us a chance to survive. I'm now of day 105 of misery, I refuse to die. But yet I know it's inevitable. And that is my problem with misery mode, the inevitability of death.

the game misery is designed that you die after a couple of dozend days and startover not to survive for ever ;). i know we can survive on loper at least, but i am on day 225+ on misery 100% Health, dlc done so misery is not the answer to die under 100 days. but if we die under 100 days it is more like a ATDS challenge then.

i m at day 80 in misery and i want to ask to delete double damage and reduce sprain damage to 1% because 4% is a guaranteed death from sprains. And restore health regain from stims. And fix fishing and deer spawns. Then it would be an interesting difficulty to play, now its very hard and i dont like it

I glad someone else doesn't like it. I actually don't mind most of the stuff. But losing 4% condition from a sprained wrist from a slope I almost never have trouble with and not being able to heal at all, is annoying.

I want to add that "sandbox" play means open ended; So with no ending. Broken body by definition takes that away from sandbox mode.

Part 5 Notes

Misery
We’ve been working on a new Experience Mode, specifically made for Interloper players who have maxed out that mode and are looking for a new level of challenge. Misery takes Interloper and ratchets up the difficulty by adding six new Afflictions that are applied over time. The purpose is to survive in the mode for as long as possible after all six Afflictions have come in, and while we’re not 100% sure yet as the mode is still being playtested (with some help from some of our Interloper players from the community), we suspect the Days Survived counts will be in the dozens and not the hundreds like some existing Interloper players are able to achieve. Just trying to keep the game fresh and challenging for a group of players in our community who really like punishment! Of course, this mode isn’t for everyone.

Don't get me wrong. I like the afflictions. Even the broken body aspect. But one can play boring and stick to Mystery lake to avoid condition loss, or explore and die. I simply would like to have the option of actually "having a chance" to survive. Hence my initial suggestion of 1% condition restoration (max) a day once broken body has taken effect. That still is pretty harsh given a simple sprain will reduce condition by 4%. But overall I love the afflictions as interloper had got far to easy (after many hours of playing the game).

but nobody needs really to explore to just survive, and you can still explore if you like. you just need go with a coal/tea/food plan :). you also have still 46 days time to visit first the sprain and colder regions. walking the normal ways works fine. and then if they change this you have the 1k+ survivings? XD

i did sundered pass the story and finish FA and survive the cold, very close with a blizzard :P on day 200+. so if you like to explore it is hard but you can do it. i avoid Black Rock and Bleak Inlet for now next and final map i do is HRV

so i think maybe misery is not hard enough if i read the information and the final broken body description. but we will see :)

I'd like to see them just make Stims work. About 200 extra hp should be enough to counter some random mistakes and bad luck if you play carefully. But I think it's more interesting with limited total hp. And the sprains thing is kinda evil, it's more annoying than hard when you can't take any shortcuts.
Evendark Jul 24, 2024 @ 10:24pm
for the moment you can use this... bug or feature nobody knows, and do not stupid climbings is realism :P. but i agree in my opinion the regular ways you should not get sprains to travel over the world. just on shortcuts. is this real you can climb down the wall at the goldmine instead of using the rope :)

Yeah, I think the healing food bug has been known since the day of release. But I think using it pretty much breaks the intended balance. It breaks NOGOA too, actually. I hope they fix it for Misery and add healing food disable switch in custom game.
But I think taking out Stims is too much. Nobody is safe from some wolf jumping out of the corner. I wanna Stims back. Setting up the run takes a lot of time, and losing a good run after a single random accident without any chance to recover is not much fun.
