Magnifying glass and torches.

So we are able to use a magnifying glass to start a fire with a torch as the fuel, but we can't light the torch using the magnifying glass? Where's the logic in that!?

Nor would I, I'd be mashing the LMB :P
But sure would be nice to be able to fire one up before venturing into a dark cave without having to start a fire, especially at low firestarting skill!

Your firestarting skill would then need to be applied to torch lighting. Meaning a change of mechaincs or a new mechainc would be needed to be added to the game. You would also still be subject to sun/clear sky to use the mag lens to light a torch.

Start the fire with your mag lens, if there is enough sun and clear sky to use it. Even a small 2 stick fire. Light your torch from the fire. Go into the cave.

It just seems like what you are asking for would mean a good bit of work for the devs, to add a mechanic or system that would have little practical use for most players, and add little gameplay value. Just my thoughts on it. Your Mileage May Vary. Widely.

I can understand your viewpoint, however, you don't need such mechanics when lighting a torch with a match or fire striker. But yes, you would need a clear sky :)

Starting a fire (of course this reference would be real-life expectation and this is a game) with a magnifying lens would require tinder. You don't directly set a log or large piece of wood on fire using a magnifying lens. Yes, you certainly know this. :)

Torch lighting pre-dates Fire Starting skill where level 3+ confers a no tinder needed benefit. Hence, it was probably not considered practical or of sufficient justification to program into the game mechanics. The devs had lot of other things to work on during early access.

So, yes, in the specific case where you could start a fire using a magnifying lens then could light a torch, you should, given level 3+ no tinder needed, be able to light a torch without the fire, but it is not there and is probably such a small and special case issue that it will never be added.

Watch the devs make a fool out of me and my prediction...

Yes in real life tinder would be needed no matter how good you are at starting a fire, though I think heating a highly flamable liquid is plausable with a magnifying glass.

I didn't bring this topic up because I'm in any desperate situation, I'm very much at end game, I just brought it up as it would make a nice little addition to the game :)
