brightness issue

On starting up the game my screen goes incredibly bright from the first click and this is't a setting issue in game, everything as should be. its like my screen is back-lit.
This has only been a problem since 3 days ago. No other game is having this issue. Any help appreciated.

anyone?. IF it helps the only thing ive noticed is NVIDIA doesn't seem to want to recognise the long dark and wants no influence over the settings, unlike other games.
