Can't launch game since update.

As stated I have been unable to launch the game since update. I get a error screen stating "failed to launch DLL (error code -998) game will not launch".
I have verified files, done a full reinstall and the issue still persists. Please help

The Steam community it not "Hinterland Tech Support"- the error you are reporting is an odd one, not a super common one experienced by a ton of players, and will result in hundreds of different ""Why am I getting [_this_error_]..." and "How to fix [_this error_] ..." results on an Internet search.

Most results say this is a general Windows (likely Windows 10/11) error, others say it is a Steam error, others say it may be due to a failing hard-drive, while others say it may be due to security software blocking game file, and threads about this or a similar error in other game hubs say it may be due to a missing Steamworks Common Redistributable.

Not giving any info on your System specs and what Operating System you are running, and whether you are using the Steam Stable Client or the Steam Beta Client makes it more difficult for people to guess at what might be happening.

No internet search results say "Have you filed a bug report with HL Tech Support on the online Support Portal yet?", which is something you absolutely should do if you want answers to a very technical question about this error related specifically to this game...
