Bear won't come to fight...missing trigger!?? [Spoiler]

After arriving in the 'Endgame-Arena' where one has to get the spear back...
I can pick up the spear and...nothing else happens.
The 'demon-bear' won't show up at all...the spear won't show up in the inventory.
The game doesn't register that one took the spear...maybe a missing trigger!??

Also on the same topic, I speared the bear 6 times in a row in that final area. There were several reloads but 6 is the most I tried consecutively, overall I speared him like 50 times while I was trying to finish that area, each time he ran off for a bit, then charged me again, and there was no indication of what I'm supposed to do. Well obviously I was supposed to kill him with the spear, but seems a bit odd to just have a tiny chance to kill him (baits the player into thinking it's a bug and makes them possibly reload multiple times).

Also the bear encounter at FM radio tower near farmstead went something like this for me:
- i get there
- bear charges me, i spear the bear
- i get up and bear is slowly walking like 15 meters away
- bear charges me again
- i spear the bear a second time
- i get up and bear is slowly walking like 15 meters away
- bear charges me again
- i spear the bear a third time
- i get up and bear is slowly walking like 15 meters away
- bear charges me again
- i spear the bear a fourth time
- i get up and bear is slowly walking like 15 meters away
- i go to an unreachable cliff to make the bear run away

I have similar problem, the bear is in the Final area and I picked up the spear but mission still says "retrieve the spear". I can equip the spear via radial menu, but can't see it in inventory.
I tried attack the bear 4 or 5 times in a row but nothing seems to happen. He just runs all around the cave.

Having the same problem as op. Picked up the spear but the game doesn't seem to recognize that it's been collected. Incidental stealthy/tension music plays as I'm walking around the area but no sign of the bear and no exits unless I'm missing something. Really enjoyed my time with the episode otherwise though

Well, I started the whole thing again and the same thing happened...Foxen all on his own in the arena with the spear in his hands...but not in his inventory!

Because I knew that could happen, I made a save spot right bofore getting caught by demon bear.

Started from this scene 11 oder 12 times...unless I managed to get the bear to follow me just by showing up to him in the first cave and so giving him the chance to hunt me.
From there he seemed to follow me whereever I went.

Seems like one has to tease the bear in the first cave to get him to come to the arena.

Thanks everyone for your posts about this issue. It sounds like there are 2 issues here.

1) Mackenzie generally shouldn't have to spear the bear more than 3 times in any encounter.
If you don't quite manage to stick him and he just mauls you instead, that encounter won't count and you'll have to try again (assuming you live)

2) The Bear is not following Mackenzie into the final cave

Update on issue with the bear not appearing -- it looks like this can happen if Mackenzie drops down a hole in the floor to the passage below, on his way to the final cavern.

If you have done this in your play through and are having difficulty with the final scene, try reloading from your last save.

In my playthrough(s) that wasn't the case...because it wouldn't be possible without dying.
The bear was underneath that saied hole as I was crauching through the tunnels to the arena.
But maybe it has to do with the fact that I was crouched the whole time in the first sequence of that tunnel.
Maybe he has to 'hear' you!??
And if he doesn't...he won't follow you?`.
Could you not just put a simple position trigger at the entrance to the arena?
That may fix that problem...

I had a round where I successfully speared the bear about 10 times in the final cave and nothing would really happen. I recovered the spear and messed the aim up on the first attack. The bear didn't kill me and the never ending rounds of me spearing the bear started. After reading this issue discussion, I restarted from the last checkpoint and didn't miss any spear shots. As expected, I killed the bear on the 3rd spearing.

I'm guessing that missing the first one and not being killed is related to the issue.
