If you're not able to see any difference when adjusting the brightness at the prompt, there's likely an issue of some kind we should follow up on. Did you end up picking one and load the main menu or a start a game? What did it look like? (You can also adjust the brightness in the display settings when in the main menu)
Moving this to the tech subforum for tracking.
What should the range be like? Should all of the settings be somewhat reasonable? That is, is the setting more for screen adjustment/calibration or more for personal preference for darkness levels?
Just realized this is from june 2016. Oh boy ... well, I haven't played this game for about that long, and I didn't have this problem back then. I went in multiple times today, reloaded the game etc. tried to find any other options to fiddle with. There is apparently on this brightness slider and I do not see either logo or wolf.
Did anyone find a solution to this over the last two years?

As for the mapping issue you described, if you're playing in a Survival or Challenge mode game-type, every region's map starts off pitch black as you have no mapped anything yet. You will need to create or find charcoal from fires and use the item to map your immediate surroundings.
Ah, good to know about the map. I thought it was because of the brightness. I do not remember it being this way two years or so ago. Anyways, the brightness setting still does not show a logo and wolf not matter what I do trouble-shooting wise. I do not think it affects the game much, sinceh the map shows up when I use coal and the game is supposed to be dark during night anwyays. Not sure if this will have a negative effect on gameplay in the future. So I guess the problem is "solved"?
