We no longer have magical cooking, you must have a can or a pot. They added a can to everyone's inventory with the update. Hopefully, you did not throw it away.
If you have fish or meat, you can place it directly on top of a stove, or on one of the 2 cooking stones on the side of a campfire, or on a cooking slot in a fireplace. Other than that, you need the container(s).
Take your time, slow down, don't panic, and explore your game, menus, UI's, inventory screens, and such. There are a number of changes that you need to learn. And rushing won't help you learn them.
It took me awhile to work out just how to use a campfire and how to use the recycled can (to make water).
I was only looking for pots and pans where they should have been on the assumption that they would have been changed, at least some of them, to be useful in this.
Thanks, I'll look. Sometimes someone needs to poke someone and remind them that people used to just toss cans into trash heaps. :)
So I can assume you still saw pots and pans and such in kitchens? I'd hate to think that I'd have to throw away a sandbox or have to (yet again) start another sandbox just to get access to pots and pans. One of my sandboxes was started because the previous one never had an aurora appear and I wanted to see it. I still have both.
Everything else, so far, seems to be okay.
ETA: I have verified the game files. I have gone upslope from Townsite and checked places I generally would not expect to see pots and pans (because there is no stove or fire barrel), even the mine link though I did not go the full length and nothing. I did eat a condensed milk and did "harvest" a recycled can so that works, but as far as any area drops of a pot or pan or can I have found nothing. I am kind of amazed at how clean the Canadians have kept their roads. No trash, no cans, etc.
Since I can accumulate cans so water making is not so restricted, I guess I can soon start my foray into Pleasant Valley and check out the Crossroads to see what I find there.
I have not found any in the gas stoves, fridges, or cupboards. But on stoves, in sinks, on the floor, or in piles of crates/boxes and debris, one with something stuffed inside it. But in only 1 day in Milton, only looting the Bank, Milton House, and 2 houses that were open to loot (most were boarded up near Milton House), I had 4 cooking pots and 3 cans, 1 can of Peaches in there for 1 can.
But my loot table seems odd, I have also found 2 rifles, 2 full boxes of shells, and 3 mag lenses in the same buildings. RNJesus has nasty plans for me, I know it. I expect to go back in to find 3 or more wolves camped right outside my door. Since they must know both riles ar 35% or below, and I have no cleaning kit to bring them up. I expect jams, only jams. :O
