40 FPS?
I get 220+ FPS with VSync off. But for this game I want to sync. Advice?

(To devs: don't fry graphics cards, put a 240 FPS cap in menus.)

Just to understand you, you're not seeing the frame rates you expect with vsync turned on?

Thx for replying :) yes, that's correct. My PC can run the game in 220+ FPS with it off (and the menus in 3900 FPS! Danger!), so I want to turn it on. But when I turn it on I get 40 FPS. 120 would be more acceptable. Some .ini file that I can edit perhaps?

Ah! I think the problem is the game doesn't turn off Vsync when I set it to off. Tried NVidia control panel too, but no dice. Also, the 36-40 constant FPS is a strange figure, and it doesn't matter what HZ I set the monitor to.

Inside Trapper's Cabin I get something like 320+ FPS, but what I'm seeing is a stuttery estimated 36-40 FPS. When I'm outside, I see 75-120 FPS, but the same stutter. I've played 3 hours now and I'm getting crosseyed :)

My specs are Core i7, GTX 1080, 16GB RAM, Win 7. I'm knowledgeable, let me know how I can help find the cause since I'd like to have a better experience :)

It's possible to cap the fps with nvidia inspector.

Or if you got an AMD card then theres an option in the catalyst menu as far as I remember.

I think if you got 120+ fps then you don't need to turn vsync on.
Yes, I've tried my framerate limiter, but it didn't affect it. See above. Right now if I could even play it with wildly fluctuating framerate+massive tearing I'd take it in a heartbeat over what I'm getting :)

It's almost as if the game is being creative and enforcing its own limiter from some values, when in fact it should just ask the engine to render the frames the normal way, so that it can be made to work on as many PC setups as possible.

Brought it back to basics now, by letting the application control everything. In the standard 1080p@60 Hz, Vsync on, I get maximum 36 FPS - but it looks more like 12. I can basically count the screen updates per second :P

It's unplayable.

This is sort of unexpected. It's as if the game can deliver hundreds of FPS but just isn't compatible with my standard, relatively high end gaming PC, or has some rogue process hogging the CPU that prevents it.

With quality set to Low, SSAO off, fov 80 and HUD off, Fraps reports 700+ FPS inside a house, and 130+ FPS outside. But that's not what I'm seeing. I'm seeing an estimated 40 FPS. I've tried everything.

Okay, the fix is to turn off Steam Overlay in-game.

You sir are the homie. Thank you for the fix.

It shouldn't be a fix now, the game runs fine with Steam Overlay and I played it today. This is a very, very old thread. I can recommend Adaptive Sync in nVidia/AMD settings for this game. It turns Vsync on when you have the same FPS as Hz or highe.r
