The cougar knife is a game changer in interloper, the head wrap is also very nice (even if a wolf hat is easier to repair, after you get the recipe from the trader)
The cougar is not that hard once you have good gear, it's even fairly easy if you get the ballistic vest beforehand.
I save scummed before heading over there to go back and try again if I died. I was able to easily kill the cougar once I had a fire down, but the first time I wasn't even trying to engage the cougar, just trying to sneak to the bunker and it attacked. Also, after I killed it, I did not like how that spawned two more cougar locations on the map. It seems excessively bloated and ruins the flow that I have developed over the last 1500 hours of this game.
***EDIT***
I did craft the cougar knife and made the headwrap but I've already lost interest in this run since it originally killed me hah. Once that happens, even save scumming, I just start over. Even if the cougar knife is OP and from what I saw the headwrap is too, I don't think they are worth losing access to numerous portions of multiple maps for the hassle of dealing with the cougars. I wish that the cougar was only on a map or two, randomly placed in timed intervals over the island (like the moose). Crazy how many more cougars there are than moose.
