NEW Cougar Discussion Thread (for the 2.0 Implementation)

We will merge all posts about the new Cougar (introduced in TALES Part Six) to this thread.

Keep in mind that if you hunt and interact with Cougars -- i.e. take a shot at them, or hit them -- this will trigger a Territory Expansion. If you are seeing multiple Cougars in a region, this is because you have been hunting them. If you leave them alone for a while, they will back off from the additional territories and end up in the first territory in the region. Also keep in mind that as the Cougar escalates to take more territory, the territory starts to overlap more with common routes or high-value locations, which means you might encounter them more, which then drives more territory expansion.

They are not meant to be hunted or harvested, so if you go after them, the world will push back on you. If you don't want to encounter too many Cougars, the best thing to do is leave them alone. If you leave a region for a while, the Cougar presence should diminish to its original level.

Too many Cougars?

Killed all three cougars in Coastal Highway today, left to grab some batteries from Pleasant Valley for the trader, returned back to Quenset and there is already a new Cougar there after like 2 days, and I'm also guessing the two other Cougar regions are active as well. I'm fine with the wolves around Quonset but am I really gonna have to deal with a Cougar every 2 days?

Why on earth would there be so many cougars in one zone? Is this intentional?

i have begin a new game but i stop my game because i have timberwolf in every map

i don t understand why theis ideas ????

Same here. I started a new game for DLC update 6 and chose "none" for "cougar spawn chance" and low and behold at day 25 I got the cut scene and a cougar icon on the map. Now I figure I need to avoid that area altogether and will miss out on whatever loot is there. It's just too powerful and too plentiful to deal with. Not cool. Let us opt out.

I just want to know where all these predators are coming from and how they manage to feed themselves on so little prey in the area. Really, a map should only have one or two packs of timberwolves or lone wolves patrolling the map. And there should be more prey than predators.

Do Cougar zones change over course of the game or are they static?

I currently have a cougar zone in Forsaken Airfield and am wondering if I should just write the zone off as a permanent "no go" zone or if the cougar positions will change over time so that I might be able to explore parts of the map that formerly had cougars patroling them.

I know right? I do love seeing the occasional timberwolf pack on the ice just to spice up the challenge, but if the predators respawn every few days like they are being produced in factory it totally breaks immersion.

problem 3 cougar

hi. i killed 3 cougar but they didn't give me a badge, and my progress is 0. i killed them all in one survival in stalker mode. why?
i started a new survival, i already killed 2 there and my progress is also 0

Are you sure is stalker and not custom ? Maybe its a bug

Hotfix Question RE: Cougar

I noticed that cougars couldn't spawn in games with its spawn chance set to 'low' on the previous build, which mine is. Does that mean I need to restart the whole run to make the cougar appear now, or will it in fact appear eventually in this save?

I had cougar set to "none" for spawn chance and got the cut scene showing one and an indicator on the map where it's supposed to be. It took about 25 days for the cougar to show up, though. How long has your game progressed in days?

Cougar respawn time

So currently im playing on a stalker run on day 25 ish, currently in TWM; I killed all 3 cougars in the region just for them to respawn the next day? 2 spawns are next to mountaineers hut and the sounds are getting annoying as well. Is this how hinterland wants it to be?
