NEW Cougar Discussion Thread (for the 2.0 Implementation)

Cougar

Seems the new cougar is not a lot different from the old cougar-for some reason a shot that would kill a bear does not even slow down the cougar Kind of disappointing.

It's a lot different, now you can see it from afar, and you can be protected by making a fire or gunting from a fallen tree like for a moose.

Cougar?

Could someone briefly descibe me how Cougar work before I turn it on over savagame?

To my understanding:
- it is like new more aggresive bear that protect and track you in certain territory? Which means:
- it is not random, the areas are fixed and cougar is also existing and moving in the world (not just spawns like timberwolfes - really dislike those)
- there are clear signs warning for cougar presence

also lead me to few specific questions:
- if cougar attack you it is fatal? Or with full health and some clothes it give you chance to escape and recover? If so how severe it is - Moose cause breaken libs, etc.?
- How hard is to kill it or scare it away? Does some strategy (throwing stones, make fire, decoys, etc.) works?
- how it interact with other wildlife? Does it hunt? Does it fight other predators?
- is there some benefit of having cougar in game (eg new crafted items) or it is just new challenge and annoyance?
- and finally - if killed - does it respawn? What is the timer?

It was added also to make you move around, not camp in one base only. Is that still the case?

Spot you from very far and run to you if you aim with a firearm
Not fatal but take a good chunk of life instantly
In the video it takes like 4 hits to kill it
Fire seems to keep it at bay and the fallen tree strat works, but nothing really scares it
Not sure it hunts other wildlife but you will encounter damaged carcasses in its territoty with new asset to show you it's the cougar. Wolves are afraid of it same as the bear.
You can craft a new hat with +4°C and the best knife in the game.
I think it respawn but it may take a while.

Cougar not spawning?

I'm on day 381 on stalker, i have enabled both the trader and the cougar.
the supposed cinematic that makes the cougar spawn, hasn't triggered no matter how many times i enter and re-enter mystery lake.

I have been in Pleasant Valley for about 10 days and just now after exiting a building I got a cut scene showing the arrival of the cougar. I would say that this cut scene is the trigger for it appearing in the fringes of pleasant valley. New save BTW.

I got the cinematic event in TM. Then i went to his area with the marked deer and trees with blood. But he doenst show up. For more than 10 days i try to chase him and walk around but he doesnt spawn at all.
Doing i somethin wrong?

Cougar on Pilgrim

While I understand that the cougar is classed as Hostile wildlife, I want to see it even on Pilgrim. I want to be able to craft the new stuff, and get the new cougar-related feat, but the fact I won't be able to on my favorite difficulty is sad.

Predators flee in Pilgrim, not sure how it would work with the cougar as it stlaks you from afar.

I'd be happy with all the usual cougar behaviour as other modes in Pilgrim, but would like a choice to enable or not, similar to the trader. I usually play in custom though, so should be able to.

I would like to know mostly about respawn condition and timers now. Otherwise already put it on, hope I will not regret later.

omg the cougar is far more dangerous than expected

i just started new run was making my way out of getting the technical backpack and when i came down the rope u here a very odd sound i thought it took 5 days to get in the region but no it was there on day 1 in ash cannon. ready to pounce idk i shot it once but hit me with 3 lacerations flare wont stop it . loud noise wont scare it , good lord this is a verocious beast.
