I guess I'm lucky I liked Quonset before part 6

My "safety house" is in Jackrabbits, more conveniente for fishing, beachcombing.

Camp Office would be a good alternative if you wanted. One region away, everything you could want available there, and the radio is right there.
My main base is in BR, with stocked outposts elsewhere. If I want to trade, I can go spend a few days at the Mtce Yard for an aurora to pop. Heck, I was recently exploring and scavenging BI, spent the night in the cannery trailer in preparation to go loot a location in the morning. Aurora popped and I set up a trade. About a week later (in-game) I went back to BR, gathered what I needed to take, that wasn't more logically acquired in CH, and headed over. Currently headed back to BR with my goods.
IMO, if you're that reliant on the trader, beyond completing his quests, that you feel locked to CH and Quonset, then you're doing it wrong.
I'm not keen on having an interactable NPC in survival mode, but it is optional. It is just a shame that I have to choose between that or missing out on the recipes, I am not too bothered about the unique item.
