How do you melt snow in 2022?

As usual, most of the articles and Youtube videos are from 2015 to 2017. Apparently they changed the way to melt snow in a 2018 update. I have a can. I can place it on a campfire. No option to melt snow. I am in the beginning crash area and will have to start a new game because I am in a loop of dying over and over again.

I also had a cooking pot from the hangar in the very beginning before the plane flight. It is gone from my inventory after the crash.

Do you have unlimited time to figure out some mechanics of the game before boarding the plane? I read that you are supposed to loot, eat and drink before leaving.

I am on the Wintermute story mode.

It means that you need a longer fire than the estimate you get when you start. If you need 20min to melt the snow, you'll need another 20min after that to boil it, so make sure you have enough fire for the quantity you are trying to make.

If you place the can on the campfire you should just be able to click on it to start making water.

Thanks. That is probably the issue. I wasn't adding enough sticks to the fire.
