Well....did you try it? ;-)
A more realistic / in-character interpretation could potentially be the fact that killing human beings would be difficult and weigh in quite heavily on one's conscience. Granted, it is kill or be killed, however it's still nerve-racking to pull the trigger. We don't know if Will is prepared to kill others yet. It may seem easy for us to say "Why don't we just kill them", but also yeah, there's way too many guards for him to take out alone, and they do indeed have fire arms.
Game gives you a ton of ammo, tons of wolves, that episode turned into a shooter
Theres an option in the first episode to kill a prisoner who has a knife in them,
you sure about that?
edit: spelling
Apologies, should have been a bit more clear. I meant shooter as in shooting humans, not wolves and what not.
Also thank you, completely forgot about that guy in the first episode. I stand corrected!
Guess it's probably just down to the fact that it would be 1 vs many
Remember that this story is trying to illustrate how Astrid and Mackenzie are good people trying to do good things only doing what's necessary to keep themselves alive while they get things done.
There are voice lines in episode 4 when you pick up guns with Mackenzie says 'I hope I don't have to use this on someone' implying that he does not want to kill anyone.
That all said, there are some portions of the story that talk about how the convicts do have access to firearms even before they could have confiscated Mackenzie's weapons at the end of Episode 2. It's also implied that there are more convicts than just the 3 you see and it wouldn't make much sense for the prison to only have 1 or 2 inmates so presumably there are a lot of unseen convicts in the prison that Mackenzie would have to deal with if he were to fight his way in/out of the prison.
The timeline of events in the prison isn't entirely clear, but I gather that Mathis and his 2 cronies are survivors from the bus crash in Milton that were on their way to the prison and not actual inmates at the prison but only arrived at the prison after the other inmates had already broken out and overcome the guards to take control of the facility.
It seems unlikely the 3 of them overran the guards by themselves, so I figured there's lots and lots of armed prisoners hanging around off-screen (all the guards' weapons from the barracks lockers must have gone somewhere after all)
Well, there are some problems with that.
Will, sure, he's killed (depending on the players choice) a guy in Episode 1. They either purposely kill him or leave him to die. Either way, the inmates fate is inevitable. However, it is a lot more different when it comes to actually shooting someone and killing more than one person, who isn't incapacitated and is very much going to fight back. He only seemed to "kill" the guy in Episode 1 because said guy was defenseless and already on death's door. Granted, if he had a gun, and Mathis had a hatchet ready to swing, he'd definitely shoot in self defense. But that's a bit situational.
Jace, we don't know much about her, whether she's good with firearms or if she was willing to kill. Plus, in real life situations, planning to shoot and kill an entire pack of criminals is quite dangerous.
The warden, well... he kinda died, but even before that, he seems to be the most likely out of the three to shoot and kill someone, or at least not be afraid of it. So he'd be the most plausible if he didn't seem so downright scared all the time.
But then again, how would they plan it? How would Will sneak the guns in, with Jace, and break the Warden out, all without Mathis and the others noticing? A quiet assassination would work either in this case.
(Also, side tangent, found it weird that Mathis never had a gun on him... or the other two for that matter...)
( especially in the ending confrontation. Why bring an axe, when you can just bring a gun? The people in the watch towers definitely had guns. )
edit: spoiler tag didn't work
The ending could use some re-work. I stashed my rifle on the escape route and picked it up during the escape. I shot at the spotlight and the figure behind but nothing happened.
I wasn't hoping to actually kill the operator, because I know that does not fit with the atmosphere of the game, but I was hoping for some feedback, like the gunshot suppressing the operator so he hides and does not move the light, or the light gets broken by the bullet so it stops working.
LOL!
I tried that one, too...but got disappointed! :D
They're talking about after the warden dies , so at this point I think it would be reasonable if Will started blasting.
Without the lights it would be harder fer them to hit McMenzie...
...that's what I thought... ;-)
MAJOR SPOILERS WARNING
the warden, when he is beaten half to death by Mathis and when your allowed outside, theres freedom to obtain a gun, and a couple of noise maker things + bullets too, that would have been the perfect time for mackezine to go get the medical supplies and whatever weapons needed to go shoot the place up(By the end of the episode I basically had enough to take on an army, tons of revolver bullets, 19 rifle rounds and 2 noise maker things),
Mathis would not kill his only source of information on the prison and on getting sollitary opened up, thats why the warden is alive, (the only one at that) so I think mackezine would have the upper hand at the start of the epsiode to basically have a shot at stopping the prisoners from suceeding, since Mathis needs both Mackezine and the warden, he would have to be forced one way or another to give up, he may be a psycopath but he's not dumb as some of the other prisoners
The two unique prisoners that accompany Mathis are complete cowards even though they "have" guns but don't use them to clear the nearby wolves in the prison area?
Gonna have to disagree with you.
