No, you do not need to restart Story Mode to play Episode 4. Each episode in Wintermute Story Mode is a stand-alone, you can play them in any order you want to, no unlocks needed.

No clue what you mean by "updates for updates". But if you mean hotfixes for current bugs in Survival mode- who knows. Hopefully, but before the Episode 4 update doesn't seem likely. Maybe with the Episode 4 update. But the new region will not be coming to Survival Mode with the Episode 4 update.

When an episode is done, it's done (aside from bug fixes).

I remembered that when i started episode 1 you had to choose the difficulty; i was bummed to find out that the wolves ran away from me because i put it too low.
Then in the next episode there was no choosing and i thought i was stucked with easy mode.
By 3 i was fighting wolves alright, but maybe they were scripted, so i still don't know.

I hope i can play 4 in normal difficulty, like i play on survival.

Maybe there is a fixed difficulty for the story mode?

Story Mode has 3 difficulties- Green (comparable to Voyageur, but not quite the same), Capable (comparable to Stalker, but not quite the same) and Hardened (comparable to Interloper, but not quite the same). Because so much is scripted, and the game is designed to make sure everything you need to finish all of the Main quests and pretty much all of the side quests, it's not "just like" any mode in Survival Mode. There are distinct differences in mechanics and loot between the 2 game modes.

Thanks for the clarification, i forgot the details.

But what will it be when starting episode 4? I remember only choosing difficulty for the first episode, not the others....Is that correct or is my memory failing?

I should probably start a new game on episode 4 instead of resuming? I don't even remember if those were actual posible options in the game.

Technically, no. I remember they've change stuff in ep1 and 2 when ep3 released.
I restart the game from episode 1 today, it do has some change, like a new tutorial in the begining, and it seems easier to reach to milton town from crash spot. (not sure)

Suggestion to op, just start with ep4 if you want to play new content. then restart the whole storymode when final episode, which is ep5, released. (in 2025, I guess.)

Before in Episode 1 you had to walk way longer before reaching Milton, it was quite a long trip. You crossed a bridge fulll of cars and then could rest at St Christopher Church. Now there is only 1 quest that makes you go at that bridge.
I remember when the game came out there wasn't the old man (Mathusalem), they added him later (ep 2 or 3 ?) Same with the prisonner who got stabbed (grey mother quest line)
That's why i asked if things would change again in other episodes after ep 4 would release.

Hmmm...I was thinking about actual "storyline" changes (like go to here and do this) versus map changes due to later stroylines effect on maps (like the rope climb behind Old Mothers disappearing).

They seem to be referring to the original Predux Episodes compared to the completely redone Redux re-release episodes. There were significant changes between Predux Episodes 1 & 2 and Redux Episodes 1 & 2.Mainly because the original release got a rather cold reception by a good number of players who had been waiting for Story Mode, so they reworked both (though you ca still play the originals using the time Capsule feature).

Episode 3 has only had hotfixes. I wouldn't expect a complete reworking of it, or another reworking of Episodes 1 & 2. They have no continuously updated Story Mode with new content like they have with survival mode, and I seriously doubt they will do so at this point in time.

Though there is a new Accessibility option being added to the game- Survival Mode, Challenge Modes and Wintermute Story Mode- that is coming with Episode 4.

I just notice that Gray mother in milton has a new quest system, instead of the trust point system in old verson. And she give me a quest, which is not exist in old verson, to check a bus nearby the tunnel of milton, (it can also refer to the ep4, I guess.) then There's a new NPC in the farm who tell the story about Astrid in ep3.

So they do add something new in ep1, to enchanted the storyline.

To OP, I was so wrong, it's totally worth to re-play. (if you only played the old verson before ep3 released.)

If you haven't seen the ep1+ep2 Redux content yet, then yes, it's definitely worth going back for it. Another Redux is not expected. Here's the Redux announcement from 2018, FYI.

I sure as heck won't be playing through them again.

Did I enjoy them? Absolutely.

Did the devs make sufficient changes to the previous episodes to make me want to play them again? Definitely not.

oh I love that you can still play the old versions through the time capsule! More devs should do stuff like that.

OK, I finished the new ep1 and 2 today, compare to old verson:
1) It's eaiser in many ways in the new verson.
2) Same maps but totally different storytelling, that's why you need to re-play it.
