So in reality you need to go left which is DOWN the hill once at the landslide, and then back up.
The idea is that the railroad is blocked by a landslide, so you have to find a way around that landslide. That's really all you need to do, and then SOMEHOW there are rails leading toward a car which then leads you to the maintenance yard.
When I made it to the yard, I was utterly bewildered as I hadn't expected to reach it so soon.
I think the moral of the story here is to NOT look so closely at the map. The pathing is actually very linear if you just follow open pathways as best you can without trying to overthink things with the map. I did take a wild guess as to what direction to walk in for the hunting lodge, figuring it'd be to the back of the maintenance yard, which it was (thankfully there was a bridge to help guide me, too).
One person said left which I think was just a typo, so just in case OP is confused, right is definitely right :)
