Confirmed thread re: *orange* signal void transmitter signals (hidden caches)
*SPOILERS*

CHANGING ORIGINAL POST FOR EASE OF USE

I'm going to put together all the confirmed locations, by me and other players, into this OP for ease of future use. I'll keep adding to it as we find more. Thanks to vlgligor and Blergh for contributing locations so far.

Again, these are for ORANGE handheld signals, which lead to hidden caches and lockboxes in the snow.

A couple of notes:

-While I and others have confirmed these locations in our saves, they are apparently randomized. Meaning, they're not guaranteed to be there in your save.

-BEWARE Aurora predators when you search. Some of these locations are near, overlap, or in direct zones of predator turf. Be careful, plan accordingly.

-Mountain town: Snowy hill off the road, towards the church, not too far from the transition cave to Hushed

-Mystery Lake - south of the railroad tracks, somewhere near either the derailment or the train loading area, can't remember

-Mystery Lake - near the propellor of the crashed plane - on a rocky plateau thing under the Forestry Lookout tower. Get there by approaching from the railroad tracks and going up a somewhat hidden path.

- Pleasant Valley - in the snowy fields between the farm house and the Timberwolf Mountain area

- Pleasant Valley - in the snow by a large rock formation, if you take the road with power lines from the farmhouse to Thomson's crossing, off the road to your left.

- Blackrock - on a high snowy hill not far from the transition cave from Timberwolf, and near the farm.

- Blackrock - near a powerline tower across the river from the prison, on the power plant side

- Forsaken Airfield - next to the crashed helicopter near Fallow Dugout

- Forsaken Airfield - airport, about mid distance between Cargomaster's Trailer and Spotter's Blind

- Forsaken Airfield - either on Drift island, or a snowy area on the frozen lake (pick up the signal at the Cove)

- Hushed River Valley - next to the crashed airplane near Lonely Cave

- Hushed River Valley - highest elevation (Monolith Lake level), very near Quarreling Falls

- Hushed River Valley - lowest elevation (valley level), very close to the Landslide

- Hushed River Valley - central elevation, just NW of the rope that descends down into the Hushed River itself, which is north of the Reclusive Falls.

- Timberwolf Mountain - Crystal Lake, on a snowy hill opposite Mountaineer's hut. I followed it from the lake up the river that leads North. You'll have to go up the river just a bit of the way, then loop back and up the hill.

- Timberwolf Mountain, near Deer Clearing. If you climb the rope from the lower elevation up to the Deer Clearing area and turn immediately left, the signal will lead you a short ways to the hidden cache.

- Ash Canyon - Pillar's Footrest area, on a snowy hill not too far from the transition cave to TWM.

- Ash Canyon - on the plateau with the Runaway Bridge. The only way up there is via mountain rope, so double-check that the signal is coming from there (by circling around) before ascending.

- Bleak Inlet - near the transition cave to Forlorn Muskeg. However, the signal died for me near the waterfall and I never found the cache, and could not pick up the signal again.

- Bleak Inlet - not too far from the trailers west of Last Resort Cannery

- Bleak Inlet - upper level where you get the code for the cannery, northwest of Pensive Lookout (the tower) near a small frozen pond. THIS ONE IS TRICKY. You can pick up the signal for this one way down at the Forlorn Muskeg transition cave AND on the way to the cave at the end of the secret mountain path - but you can't get to this hidden cache from either of those places. Learned this the very hard way.

I have been more focused on finding the hatches, but I'll flick between search modes periodically while I'm looking for the hatch. Found two hidden caches in Pleasant Valley while looking for the hatch there.

You cannot blindly "open" these caches without the Receiver in hand and without Aurora / Active signal. This is true even for bunkers, which are much more visible -- you cannot remove the snow heap unless the bunker is actively sending a signal. (Once the bunker is uncovered, it can be opened even without aurora.)

I used the handheld to get to within visual range of a bunker, and then put the handheld away, and walked up to the bunker and was able to open it. Don't need to actually have the handheld in hand, apparently? I suspect perhaps if it's gated, the gate might be the beeping sound indicating close proximity? Might be interesting to test that, though I suppose it might be a lot harder to test the caches, as the hatches are at least visibly distinguishable.

Thanks for the heads up re: the two in Pleasant Valley!

Sorry, I should have been more clear - I know you need an aurora/the transmitter to find and unearth them. It's more that I have no idea whether some/all of the maps have the hidden caches, and if so, how many, etc. I am usually not out and about in an aurora - I'm usually doing something really specific (i.e. opening the ammo bench room door in Bleak Inlet). So, just wondering if folks know more about the caches.

RE opening the bunkers without the handhelds - I had heard you can fix the transmitters before getting the actual handheld, so I fixed the one in Pleasant. However, when I went to the bunker, it wouldn't let me open/access it. I've since went to Forsaken Airfield and got the handheld, fixed all the transmitters. So far, I've only tried to open the one in Hushed, but there was an aurora and had the handheld. I don't think they open unless there's an aurora.

Hello all, here are a few that I've found so far. I haven't made following the orange signals my priority, these are just a few I've happened upon. Spoilers, obv, and will put more up here if I find any.

And these are general geographic descriptions, as I figure you've got to use the handheld during an aurora to really get them anyway.

-Mountain town: Snowy hill off the road, towards the church, not too far from the transition cave to Hushed

-Mystery Lake - south of the railroad tracks, somewhere near either the derailment or the train loading area, can't remember

-Mystery Lake - small plane crash - on a rocky plateau thing under the Forestry Lookout tower. Get there by approaching by the railroad tracks and going up a somewhat hidden path.

-Pleasant Valley - in the snowy fields between the farm house and the Timberwolf Mountain area

-Pleasant Valley - in the snow by a large rock formation, if you take the road with power lines from the farmhouse to Thomson's crossing, off the road to your left.

Thank you, was wondering about those two maps!

Two more: (beware Aurirora timberwolves!)

-Blackrock - on a high snowy hill not far from the transition cave from Timberwolf, and near the farm.

-Blackrock - near a powerline tower across the river from the prison, on the power plant side

Thanks for the info, let me add some more:

Forsaken Airfield: On Drift Island, about central-ish.

Hushed River Valley: In NW-area where bear resides, about NW from the rope descending down into Hushed River. (You hunt cache, bear hunts you.) You can catch the signal from the hatch of Bunker Gamma.

Hushed River Valley: 99% confirmed it's west of Landslide, but east of the Moose Overlook access. I could pick up the signal from Peak Cave, but haven't had a chance to investigate fully.

Forlorn Muskeg: This one's unconfirmed, but it's in the NE-section of the map, north of the railroad tracks. Sorta out in the open, west of that lake up there.

Bleak Inlet: NW of Bunker Alpha. You can catch the signal from the hatch.

Thanks - super helpful!

I'm wondering if these are somewhat randomized?

For instance, the one you mention on Forsaken, it wasn't on Drift Island for me. The handheld didn't start beeping until I got down to the cove area, and the cache was kind of in the middle of the lake between the cove and the hunter's blind.

They are random, On my second attempt the Forsaken airfield ones were all in different places. The bunkers seem to be in the same place though.

They seem to be random, I just spent a good while trekking through Mystery Lake and didn't get a single beep, even though I easily covered half the region.

The bunkers themselves, though, appear to be static spawns. Unless I'm mistaken.

When you don't get a signal it may be that the bug took out your repaired transmitters.

Yes, that is a possibility I realized shortly after making the post, and I'm looking into it.

AH, got it. Thanks all.
