Cooked. It also doesn't matter which kind of meat it is, they all last longer when cooked. (in case you needed to know)

The other thing to remember is you can have something uncooked degrade way down to around 15%....cook it & it'll be back up to around 60% in it's cooked form... now you also have it lasting longer than it's raw state.

Also I figured it out that if you let a raw meat decay for some time, you will lose some of it's original calories. ( For example: I had a 80% raw meat which showed 800 calories, when I cooked it, it went back to 100% but the calories were dropped by a bit to about 730 )

So I think it's best to cook them fast, so you don't lose calories on them, which I think is essential.

Calories raw and cooked:

Deer it's from 900 raw to 800 cooked
Rabbit 500 rawto 450 cooked
Wolf 800 raw to 700 cooked
Can't remember for the fish but I think it's
Salmon 900 raw to 800 cooked
Rest dunno

I don't think it loses more calories if you cook it after waiting for the condition to drop while it's raw. When you cook something which is like 8% condition it won't have 100% condition after you cook it though.
Personally I wait with cooking till I have about 10/15 kilos worth of stuff to cook and only cook every few days.

Fishes lost a lot, esp bigger fishes.

Looks like someone stole your turtle-neck, lel.
I dont fish alot becoz I hate to lose fish hooks. Every 1 counts as 0.5 scrap metal.

I store all my raw meat on a dead man's body until i'm ready to cook it. +1 if it's near to my temporary base. Now if I could just make my own bullets. I have one round left, (been constantly besieged by wolves) and I'll soon need to go talk to fluffy and then probably go visit his cousins near the highway later on. Pray for me.

Making bullets sounds less realistic. Reloading would be possible but you would have to find a place with a loading bench and supplies....that match the gun you have.

I am not saying this would be uncommon for a location like this, but the protagonist would also know how to do it, which I would not assume he/she does. I also am not sure of the laws in Canada that may impact this.

I am not disappointed that guns are limited in this game, I understand that is a play/balance thing. Having a 12 gauge pump and 120 shells would make this game remarkably easy.

Rather have 12 Gauge shotgun, .22 rifle or a 9mm pistol in this situation than a hunting rifle. But the rifle is aight.

Consider cooking the raw meat at the point where it's cooked condition will be 100, that way youll make the meat last some extra time. In stalker (not sure if its different on other modes), when you cook raw meat at 50% condition, youll get it cooked at 100%. Considering raw meat degrades something like 1 condition point per hour and each meat takes 20 minutes to each, in general, for 10kg to 15kg of meat and clearly without being exact, I try to start cooking when the raw meat is near 60% condition.

I'm sure Ray Mears said that when humans discovered fire it allowed us to develop larger brains; due to the cooking process releasing more nutriment value?
