Arrow Retrieval
So at this point I think I've lost more arrows to graphical issues than broken ones. the last 2 wolves i've shot have fallen down in such a way as the arrow and half their face are buried in the snow, knowing it's there sticking through the geography is so annoying :P

Yeah... I had seven arrows and lost all but one to glitches.

Arrows that hit an animal that you then harvest should be retrievable through that UI. You're out of luck if the animal happens to roll over to the side your arrow is sticking out on when dying.

true though if you get an animal in the side and it falls on the arow, i just think broken arrow, but when you shoot them in the face and their nose just angles into the snow i think, ok physics defying arrow how did you kill that in the first place :p

most of the time the arrow re-appears - usually after going inside and back out again or waiting for the body to disappear

If an arrow gets stuck underneath the animal, you can retrieve it when the corpse is gone. Also if the arrow breaks upon hitting the animal, it will just fall on the ground
Yes, it is worse on the bears since they are too big. I hope there will be a way to move dead animals in the future patches.

Are arrows worth the scrap metal ? can't live without a knife ..you can without arrows.

At this point having lost six arrows due to the glitches mentioned in this thread I am inclined to say no. I plan to give bow hunting at least one further attempt, however, due to the rarety of the materials involved it'll only be one. I can just as easily flush a deer into a wolf and drive the wolf off and still stay fed or place a bunch of snares. Oh yeah, i haven't managed to kill anything with those six arrows I've lost. I am glad to see Hinterland implement the bow as a craftable item but assuming the player character is just terrible with the weapon, ammunition is simply too rare for it to be worthwhile.

There is a workaround for this bug. Also with heashot from a close distance, 1 arrow can be enough to kill 5 or more wovles.

I have killed quite a few wolves with the bow using the 'drop bait- back up' trick. The arrows I have lost have largely been with archery experimentation and wild shots hunting deer and rabbits. Lost a few to unrecovered wounded animals and that invisible arrow bug.

I'm reasonably sure Hinterland will tweak the bow into a very desirable game item.

I shoot cross-bows in RL and it is very easy to loose an arrow (bolt) particularly shooting at a deer in the field, even with luminescent nocks. Even at an archery range, I once adjusted a scope in the wrong direction and sent a bolt into the turf. I KNEW where it went and still couldn't find it. It buried itself in the turf! I found it after half an hour of carving up 15' of turf. Damn things are worth $20 each! LOL!

Would help if you could straight aim the bow -either at a reticule or just being able to look over the arrow straight at the target.

I lose just a few arrows. I miss on the ice and can't find it rarely. I stick a deer in the butt with a bad shot and I don't find it. But I never had a deer fall and cover up the arrow but I did get a bear and a wolf to. I just pointed around and all over the animal till it read "arrow" and clicked. I have lost enough to watch what is beyond my target. I prefer snowy ground. And when on ice, I just walk straight out. I usually find it but not always. Some shots I just don't take, like over the top of a hill.

If anyone is having problems with arrows disappearing into the terrain -- snow/rocks, not ice -- after the next update, please report it in the proper tech forum so we can take a look.

Mentions of ice seem fine in this thread, but because I saw someone ask in another thread: Arrows get a little bouncy and slippery out there. They can be very difficult to find (a result of the choice you make to fire them over the ice), but they likely aren't vanishing.

I lost mine on the winding river in the ice. took a pot shot at a rabbit for fun and couldn't find it. I was wondering if that's a thing on the ice, but it doesn't look like it. As far as bow usefulness, for me it has been extremely effective for defense against wolves. Using it to hunt I have had zero luck. You can't crouch with it which makes sneaking impossible. But if a wolf comes after me, I wait until they're close and shoot em in the head. One shot kill. And since arrows are craftable and birch is plentiful, you don't need many arrowheads. Better than the rifle or flares which are more rare.

I love the game hinterland its rare you see a survival game without super natural aspects. I was curious on the matter of if you are going to impliment diffrent arrow types? in example make birch shafts with stone tips you have to sharpen, but are not as durable as iron tips with other shafts. Im not saying make it easy, just make archery a little easy to get into. Oh and spears would be nice. Again thank you for the great game looking forward to what eles you have in store.
