How do you boil snow/make water?

I've had my character die of dehydration a few times and I've heard it said that you have to melt or eat snow to get water. But how? I tried lighting a fire outdoors and I can't select the snow, at least as far as I can tell. Sodas and bottled water seem to be rarer than gold dust.

Two hours in and loving the game, but a tutorial of some kind really wouldn't go amiss.

You can only melt snow and boil water indoors by using the woodburning stoves. The actions are seperate. Takes around 20 minutes to melt 1 litre of snow and roughly the same to boil it, so if you use a piece of reclaimed wood only expect to get half a litre of water.


Best to use a piece of cedar to get enough water for your character. You can expect to drink one to one and half litre per day.

Your character collect it automatically, you only need to click the arrow to choose how many Liters you want to melt.

Ah, I see what happened; I was looking at the menu for STARTING a fire, when what I should have done was look at the menu again AFTER I'd started the fire. Makes perfect sense. Thank you both for helping me out :D

put that thing in campcraft i forgot its name!smt that you eat water in it!put this in near fire and click on it and make water

I just have one question can we mimic Bear Grylls yet and drink our own pee to survive? This feature should have been in at day one. Every survival game needs this feature.
