[Public Service Announcement] Pronunciation of "Toque"
Rhymes with "Luke" and does not rhyme with "soak." Say it with me now.

Just to add to usage notes because I'm compelled by linguistics training to do so:

In occupied southern British Columbia, 'toque' (pronounced here to rhyme with 'luke', because here rhyming with 'soak' means you're lighting a joint) doesn't even apply to woolen hats. Only to plaid ushanka-style hats that are furry are the inside. Hurray for regional variation.

Hm! Very interesting.

I see what you did there. XD

Thank god someone finally posted this and thank you devs for pinning it. +1. Have been watching a lot of gameplay videos on Youtube and have been getting really tired of hearing every Brit and American I watch pronounce it wrong.

toque pronunciation [www.merriam-webster.com]

Now I'm confused... merriam webster says it DOES rhyme with "soak"...

Well, they're American, so it makes sense. I didn't realize Americans pronounced the word differently until I mentioned to an American buddy how annoyed I was by all these youtubers consistently mispronouncing the word, and he told me that's how it's regularly said down in the wilds of occupied Southern Canada.

"Occupied Southern Canada" LOLOLOLOLOL!

Thanks learned I something today
