A Tip On Harvesting Lanterns

Doubtless many of you already are aware of this, but for those who aren't ...

If you harvest a lantern for scrap metal and have a Jerry Can in your inventory, the Jerry Can will collect the unused kerosene that was in the lantern at the time you harvest it.

If you don't have a Jerry Can in your inventory, you'll lose the kerosene.

I have found that if you find a storm lantern, you can usually find a Jerry Can nearby. Not all the time, but fairly often.

Also, the jerry cans have a capacity of 4L, so make sure it doesn't "overflow", causing you to lose some kerosene :)

Great! I was wondering about this! :) Good to know about needing to have a container to pick up the leftover kerosene. This can save space and weight.

no they don't but you need a light source in that thing , or you'll never ever be able to find the exit again

thx for the tip. i didnt know.i got one tip and maybe you all know it but if you harvest meats on a carcasse using the hunting knife it takes longer to harvest then with the hatchet not sure if a bug or intended.

Actually, that depends on the % frozen of the carcass. If the carcass is only lightly frozen or not frozen, the hunting knife only takes HALF the time of the hatchet.

Thanks for this, this whole time whenever I get a second lantern, I would just switch to the less conditon/fuel and use it up as quick as possible(without wasting it still) and then harvest it.

This trick also works for the rifle. If you have ammunition in a rifle you want to scrap and another rifle and ammunition in your inventory then the bullets go into your inventory when you harvest it.
