Confused about the "Renewed Hope" mission
So I'm a little stuck on this mission in the game, I am reasonably certain what I need to do in order to complete it, but I need the aurora event to happen in order to power the elevator. I've waited multiple in game days for this event, but it just doesn't occur, I don't know if I need to do some specific thing in order to make it happen, or if it just happens randomly. Point is, I would like to know if the aurora is random or if I need to do something.

The Aurora is random, and will only happen on a clear night (sunset to sunrise) with no blizzard or fog obstructing the sky.
Nothing you can do to trigger the Aurora- some people got lucky and RNG gave them one on the first night, others have waited up to 14 days. RNG is fickle.

Alright, thanks man.

Some people had luck with creating a manual save at sunset, then exiting and reloading the game from that save- it can cause a new RNG dice roll *sometimes*, but is not a guarantee.

Assuming Wintermute aurora occurs like survival mode aurora, what one needs as well as the RNG smiling at them, would be clear skies. Might keep that in mind if trying the manual save, then quit and reload process.

I actually started looking this up, since it wasn't triggering for me at all. It did finally happen after about 5 days. The good news is, Methuselah has a perma-fire going in case it gets cold or you get hungry, so no need to waste and forage for firewood during this time. I was also able to kill a deer and get lots of food during these 5 days.

Methuselah and his perma-fire only happens when your playing Wintermute / story mode. You're on your own when playing survival mode because Methuselah does not exist.

The OP asked about the "Renewed Hope" quest- which only occurs in Wintermute Episode 2. So it's pretty safe to say Methuselah will be there.

Sorry, it goes to show ya how long ago I played Ep2 when I can't remember the name of the quest. On top of that by repling to this thread in the General Discussion forum and not in the Wintermute sub-forum I just thought it was a new chapter that came with the Black Rock map.

Yeah, it's in the wrong subforum, but that happens fairly frequently here.
Hinterland doesn't work weekends, and I don't think they are opted-in to Valve helping with moderation actions like moving threads (and even if they were, they new-ish third party Valve paid moderation takes forever to do anything, even on Steam's own official Discussion Forums). Plus our forums moderator may be a bit distracted- BC just had some fairly significant municipal elections last night- so things may have been a bit crazy in and around Vancouver and Victoria for the last few weeks. Devs are humans with lives of their own away from and outside of the game(s) they work on.

So...the aurora happened the first night I was there, but I didn't succeed in the mission. Now I'm on day 10 and no aurora. I've gone back to the lake and the timber camp, killed a deer and ate it, now I'm just sitting in the truck day after day, waiting for the aurora. This SUCKS!
