Stuck in the abandoned lookout :/
This is the first time I have gone to the abandoned lookout so I am unsure if this is an issue with the new update or just me being dumb, but I really cannot think on a way to get out of here alive :)..

I was attacked by two wolves to get in here (thankfully I had waited just long enough for a third to wander away otherwise that would have been game over), and now every day there are one or two wolves pacing back and forth underneath the tower.. after 3 or 4 days of waiting for an oppertune time, I saw the way was clear and started making my escape, only to be attacked by 2 wolves then having to run back to the tower from a 3rd !

After that I sort of snapped and have started fighting the ones that seem determined to camp at the bottom of the tower hoping that they will take a hint... 4 or 5 fights later and even though I can see the corpse of one that didn't get too far after a fight, by the next day (or even after a few naps to get some health back) there is another 1 or 2 just pacing back and forth....

Is this normal ? :).. It is beginning to feel a lot like groundhog day and most of my enjoyment is ebbing away as fast as my dwindling food supplys, at least I am no longer encumbered I guess.

Anyone have any ideas how to escape ?, can I survive going down the cliff at the back ?. If it was just two wolves by themselves I would fight and risk walking out in a bad condition but I know there are more at both of the entrances to this crappy tower hehe.

I have no rifle, and no torches.. no hope ?

UPDATE : Woohoo !, running out of food forced my hand in the end, lol.. I did nothing but sleep and drink / eat for about a day since movement seemed to effect the wolves so maybe they were getting drawn back each time I went out to look.. down to my last few candy bars etc I figured I'd just go for it hehe, there was only one wolf to fight at the bottom of the stairs then I just started running.. didn't see another wolf all the way to pleasant valley :D.. maybe I had been culling the numbers a bit and just didn't realise ?.

Glad that is over !.. now its finally time to check out the new map :).. just hope I can find some food fast.

I would reset the game or wait for a hotfix, that ain't normal.

I've had that happen to me before (last patch). What you do is, you're still able to get wood and tinder, so you go out and get as much of it as possible. This will do you no good at all. You then proceed to go down the stairs, and get attacked by the wolves one by one. The last one will kill you, and then you restart. You're welcome!

Unless you happen to have a flare, in which case you can skip the steps described above, and just scare them off and be on your merry way.

lol, If only you could throw wood down at them ! :)

Sadly I used up my last flare getting in hehe, the fluffys ignored it.. has happened a few times in this playthrough, though from a change in the update / just bad luck I am unsure :)

Yeah, seems that going for the rifle there immediately isn't a good idea (especially if it doesn't spawn there that particular game).

Think I have been pretty lucky, so far have never had a trapped situation with wolves, almost had one at a fishing hut but managed to escape. Think the only thing you can really do is run, fight or use flares/torches

I've had the exact same thing happen to me twice before. I had two wolves laying siege to the abandoned tower and they were perpetually running after me. I tried using flares and I tried lighting a fire at the base of the tower but nothing scared them away! It seems like it's impossible to scare them off once they've started chasing you...

I even took a screenshot of the determined wolves!

Anyways, the first time it happened to me I died, and the second time I managed to run away to the cliff path to the left of the tower.

I'm not a fan of the whole lost highway area itself as a starting point, it's just in my last game I survived over 40 days in mystery lake then with all the crafting done and feeling a bit bored I figured I was ready for evil highway... only to fall off the train bridge on the way :), the thought of playing another similar game seemed a bit daunting. But aye, think I will be giving the lookout a wide berth from now on, in this game version anyway.

Pay careful attention when you enter a building on whether it saved or not. If it did, you are actually inside. This lookout is outside. Unlike other locations, the wolves don't just simply move off since you are outside and they know you are there. Indoor locations they will wander away from.

Only thing you can really do is get into a fight with one of them and t hen retreat back inside (shut the door) and sleep yourself back to health before going for the other, or attempting to run away.

I did fight them 4 or 5 times (wasn't really keeping count) but as I said there was always another one or 2 after I'd healed, which prompted me to make this thread.. thought they were respawning / getting full health back / it was a bug or something, and I was getting so low on food that I couldn't really keep up that tactic much longer if there were infinite wolves there hehe.

Given the lack of other wolves on the route I took after I made my escape though I think possibly more were getting pulled in from the surrounding area after each fight (maybe smelling blood?) and then not leaving, so it was messing with my head :).. I did say I might be being dumb hehe.

Good point about the hut being outdoors though, I hadn't given that aspect much thought to start with, I'm still a bit of a newb at this game.

i don't know if my few hours ago game was with 193 but the wolves were there . except that now i play in pilgrim which is much fun , as the wildlife attack you only if you attack them . personnally i highly doubt such high position can make some wildlife camp around . as your scent is much more difficult to detect . but maybe 193 fixed that , i'll see when i go back there which is likely to happen soon

I had the same problem of getting stuck in there for a few days. Fought and killed one wolf but 2 more showed up and paced about at the base for 2 days waiting to avenge their fallen brother. In the end lack of food forced me to escape too. I managed to climb down the cliff side, carefully in crouch making sure to use the ledges. Did it without taking any damage and the wolf's didn't try and follow.
