Wolves, What The Actual Hell Is Going On?
I feel like my game is bugging out. I haven't played in almost a year, came back to try some survival and the wolves are making the game quite literally unplayable.

If a wolf see's even a single pixel of me, at any distance, they immediately aggro and start chasing me. Breaking line of sight does absolutely nothing to stop them. I have tried cheesing the game and breaking my ankles down a cliff side to get away from them, but they never stop, they will run across the entire map/region until they catch up to me again. Once wolves are aggro'd onto me and they can't reach me, my game goes down to 40 fps and will not recover until i start a new game, despite me averaging over 100 fps in any other non aggro circumstance. The wolf morale bar never goes down, despite throwing rocks at them or even fighting them and using a knife to counter their attack. If i enter a car or building, no matter how far away they get the instant i leave the car or building they aggro on me again and the chase resumes, even if they have no line of sight.

I'm at a complete loss as to how i'm supposed to counter this. I don't remember wolves being this bad when i last played. I've tried stalker and voyageur difficulty and it's the exact same experience regardless.

One of the last times i played i was trying out the multiplayer mod with friends. I'm not sure if there is still something left over in the files that is breaking the game. I'm on a completely different computer than i was when i used the multiplayer mod, so unless Steam downloaded the modded files there should only be vanilla game files in my installation. I have verified files and it says everything was successfully validated.

If this is not a bug, this is horrible game design. I don't know who thought this was ok, the game is literally by definition unplayable. I cannot walk around outside for more than 2-4 minutes without being spotted by a wolf or pack of wolves from so far away i can barely see them, at which point they chase me around for the rest of my save until i'm either dead or start a new game.

I don't think there are any mods on steam apart from language translation ones, not for me anyway. So I don't think steam will have downloaded anything game breaking. Your talking about a wolf pack, maybe its bugged or something because that isn't sounding normal, they won't see you if your a good distance away. Its possible your carrying a bunch of animal fat or something without realising and smelling like dinner to them. I would try leaving the region and coming back again, maybe with a gun to shoot them.

...The wolf morale bar never goes down...

Looks like you are talking about Timberwolves - now present in most of the maps; they don't stop follow you until you broken their morale bar, or enter a building with loading screen, or leave that map.

Their detection radius is bigger than the normal black wolves, so don't carry meat in the backpack when near them. Even 0.01 grs of meat, fish attract wolves.

...and this is why I play without aggressive wildlife.

i've noticed since the wildlife refresh that wolves are pretty much every where and if they aren't, they will be in a day or 2. constantly have a wolf following me through most maps. i preferred the old spawns. it felt more rewarding learning all the spots. now its just rng what will be today? a wolf? but your butt it will be.

It's not "Just RNG"

As you said you knew all spawn points.

Sure there's more locations/paths but in the end don't worry you will know them all like before.

Regarding timberwolf spawns (not black wolf spawns), Raphael has just updated the original thread on the online forums with more information and additional clarifications.

Yes, a morale meter means timberwolves, not black wolves.

Thank you for all the replies everyone i appreciate it. I think i will try playing with custom settings and reducing their detection radius or aggressiveness if i can. Also just to clarify when this has been happening i've had no meat on me at all. I haven't even been able to get far enough into the game to find meat or a gun since i get found so quickly. I'll start a new game and more often than not within 5 minutes i'm being run down by wolves.
Cooked food makes much less smell, but not eliminating it, the travois thingy also gives off zero smell, being a movable container

Yep, you are referring to the spread of timberwolves from three regions to several more. Like you I find this totally unenjoyable . We can opt out of cougars so please include a similar option for timberwolves.
