It's for the meat curing box you can make at the furniture workbench after you get the woodworking tools and craft the workbench. Lets us salt cure stuff. And it needs a lot of salt- you can use the bags or the small amounts from harvesting it at salt deposits.

DP- there are deposits at the very back of Scruffy's cave, and I found some on the back side of Little Island. I haven't checked along the coast near the lighthouse or along the map edge leading to Katie's Corner yet. I actually want to check the entire coastline in DP to see if here is more.

You can also trade with the Trader for salt, which might be the easier route. The trade requirement is quite low, and I believe that those salt deposits in the mines and on rockfaces are one-and-done (once you've scraped it off, it's gone for good).

Incorrect. They do respawn, 2.5 KG/vein. Coastal ones. Haven't checked the ones in the mine
