Why do I miss having Fluffy in The Carter Hydro Dam
Since 2016 when I first played TLD has changed so much and would not change my game in 2025 except for a dangerous canine roaming the dam.

Recently I have watched YouTube videos from 2017 to remember how that building was. Given the choice I want the new dam. The biggest change for me is the place is safe. (Just to clarify I do not move around during The Aurora with live electrical wires to step on.) I miss Fluffy. I know she is in another place but it is not the same.

Today if you battle Fluffy it is over as soon as you walk through the door. She barks and you shoot. Before we had revolvers the player had to go in sometimes without a weapon, fight the wolf and wait for it to die. She was on the main floor or or in the big turbine room. There were no upstairs. This is also before Wintermute. (WOW!)

You were allowed to enter the front door unharmed. There was that sense of dread when you entered like when you walked into Dracula's castle. You tell yourself about the amount of good loot is here and and the risk is worth it. The noise of you opening lockers would attract the vicious resident to your location.

The cave wolves, Scruffy, Sketchy and the wolf in the Far Territories is much scarier than Fluffy 2.0

Do you remember the original Fluffy in Carter Hydro? Do you miss her?

I always thought Fluffy stayed down in the turbine room, I didn't realize she could come up to the main door. I thought I was safe sleeping by the main door, I was wrong.

I just miss the game from 2017-2020. It just felt better to me during that time then it does now, but thats my opinion.

To be clear, if you were quiet and did not open lockers Fluffy would not come to the front entrance room. Can anyone else agree or disagree?

It was getting dark and I needed to rest. The dam was the closest place and this was before the trailers were added outside. I only entered the dam and set down my bedroll. After I woke up I heard Fluffy walking around and then the glowing green eyes turn the corner and run at me.

I don't think I looted anything but it was years ago and I could be wrong. I do remember my game glitching out because the attack animation happened at the EXACT same time I exited the dam. The game was stuck where you selected your melee weapon.

I think why we miss fluffy is because, of Stockholm syndrome.
And the nostalgia when she was removed, but many players agree that fluffy simply switched addresses and when to bleak inlet for the that sweet, sweet, new real state.
it got a great view and its on a elevated platform giving her plenty of safety from the timber wolves.

Not Stockholm Syndrome at all, but simple tension; a known terror. I loved going into the dam and knowing that it wasn't free, that there was something out there lurking in the dark...it was petrifying and a very cool moment in the game. TLD didn't have many 'scripted' sequences back then, so to know she would be in there waiting was a cool thing.

i remember when i was still fresh to the long dark, and had watched all of graystillplays lets plays of it.
so when i first went to the dam i thought that fluffy was still in the game and so i slowly cleared the dam for an imaginary wolf with a rifle.
Shout out to graystillplays.

its a little sad but understandable why he moved on.

I miss fluffy too, I still remember the first time I met her lol.

I also remember thinking it was a glitch when they removed her.

Some runs I would enter the dam and she was gone.
