Where are you putting the Meat curing box
Thinking of building mine outside the Camp Office.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that's possible. You can only put it into a base customization area. I have mine under the stairs.

Cannot be placed outside, the only mechanics outside when interacting with the box is to "drop".
I placed the 3 boxes I built in:
- Pleasant Valley at the semi-outdoor entrance area of the Farmstead House. I also built the furniture workbench there, as it allows to work there during clear nights.
- Camp Office - ML and
- Quonset Garage - CH.

The last 2 are great for curing fish meat. The easiest to maintain is the one Coastal Highway, as you have direct access to salt deposits. I am not aware of sources of salt in PV or ML.

I have at least one base in every major region and in every base there's one of these boxes ^^

It's right there on the floor by the support beam in the cabin on Drift Island at the Forsaken Airfield where my beloved home is.

And where do you get the salt for it? Any deposits nearby?

Sadly no, as far as I'm aware at least. I know it's a major inconvenience but I just love that darn cabin too much. I've been doing trips to Coastal Highway every forthnight or so to do deals with the trader and I'm fairly well stocked with supplies at the Drift Island, because I spent the first 300 days emptying other maps of goodies and hauling them to Forsaken Airfield. It's not like I have anything better to do, haha!

I haven't found any in ML or MT yet, but I can confirm that in the base game there are deposits in CH behind Jackrabbit Island, in some of the mines (Abandoned Mine #3), in DP on the back side of Little Island, and at the very back of Scruffy's cave.
Yes, they do seem to renew, but I don't know the exact timing (my deposits in DP were harvestable again after around a month when I went back to grab some stashed loot at the Lighthouse). I haven't looked hard for where every deposit is, so there may be more in DP and CH that I haven't found yet along the edges of the coastal rocks, and I would imagine that there are going to be some in BI and the OIC near the ocean's edge as well. Maybe in other mines too, but I haven't checked them all yet. Kinda doubtful they'll be found in inland (freshwater) locations, but until we all check *everywhere* , who knows?

I place it near the entrance because I want to put 20kg meat in one go in it easily.

You need to be in customization mode to be able to place items

The most practical for me has been 2 at CH Garage 1 front door 1 back door. Salt is easy and been mostly putting fish and the occasional bear meat in there. I consider the dried meat my Travel food or Ingredients for my favorite Pemmican bars.

Voyageur, was a bag in MT Orca gas station.
Can confirm there were salt pillars in BI beneath the cannery.

Yeah, I was talking about salt deposits, not bags, though. I don;t think there are any deposits in any of the inland (freshwater) regions, only in coastal (saltwater) regions. A few mines and caves in saltwater regions have deposits, but I haven't checked every mine or cave in freshwater regions, like Winding River between ML and PV. I *suspect* there won;t be any.

When I try Customization, I expect to put a meat curing box in Quonset Garage or the house behind it where I now cure all the hides and guts I collect.

I have all the bags of salt, bottles of salt, other traded Frontier Cooking ingredients, fir, cedar, and reclaimed wood that I have been accumulating stored in that house as well.

I have a problem with my travois periodically going to ruin while in inventory so I would rather not depend on dragging bags of salt hither and yon for now.
