Pour back kerosine from lantern?
Hello,

Is there some way of pouring back kerosine inside something? I wanted to make a torch, which requires 0,2 liter kerosine. I do have a latern with around 0,4 liter, but whenever I try to craft a torch it says I need kerosine. I would imagine that if you can refill a lantern, you would also be able to take kerosine from it. Which you can't (unless I missed something).

Also, when harvesting a lantern you don't retrieve the kerosine that is inside. However, when you have two lanterns and you harvest one, the remaning kerosine DOES go to the other lantern. If your character can pour kerosine from one lantern to another, he should also be possible to pour it back in a jerry can (or bottle I don't care where it is in). Right now the situation is inconsistent.

Oh, this must be new. I recall being able to recover kerosene from harvested lanterns just fine in a recent game.

If you harvest a lantern and have a jerry can in the inventory it goes in there.

Ok, thanks I did indeed not have a jerry can. Only to collect water it doesn't matter you havn't found a bottle to put it in, but for the kerosene it does? That is inconsistent, why can't I pour kerosine in a water bottle?

You can harvest it, but I don't want to destroy the lantern I just want the kerosene out of it. You should be able to just pour the kerosene out in my oponion (since you also can pour it in).

Oh thats true you need lantern fuel bottle or a jerry can to get it inside.

Just like not being able to start a campfire indoors, because its not safe. Kerosene, or any other POL, would eat away at any plastic container not specifically designed to hold POLs. Maybe if it was only a temporary measure until you find a jerry can, but most players would simply leave them in water bottles. If that's the case, to water bottles should deteriorate very fast ingame to incentivise putting kerosene in proper containers

Yes, that is very true. I never worked with kerosene so I don't know how agressive it is. I only wish you could pour it back in the jerry can without having to scrap the whole lantern. And this also should be mentioned by the game while doing so because right now it just disappears. Same as with unloading the gun you should be able to unload the lantern with the proper material.

Agreed. I just confirmed that if you scrap a lantern with a proper fuel storage in your inventory, you do get that kerosene back. As for just emptying it without scrapping it, we should have that option as well. I have 3 of them so im not worse for wear.

Yes, the most recant lantern I've harvested emptied into a pair of lantern fuel flasks, so those should work if they haven't changed anything.

would be nice to fill one jerry can with another so you dont have 3 partials laying around.

Yeh. Someone was suggesting more robust kerosene management options, but I posted there that I suspect this will be coming in the update that adds siphoning fuel from cars.

+1 for kerosene management and siphoning from cars.

Siphoning gas might be iffy. Depending on how long they've been there, the fuel might be sludge. Also, gasoline and kerosene aren't that similar; I'd be hesitent to use gasoline in a kerosene lamp in real life. What other use would gasoline provide, use as an accelerant perhaps? If it's in a coming update though, I won't argue.

Gasoline in a kerosene lamp = "BOOM" , but jet fuel for helicopters is just about the same, except cleaner, if we could find a fuel cache maybe?

You can get muli-fuel lanterns that will burn naphtha or unleaded gas. http://www.coleman.eu/Benelux/p-22749-powerhouse8482-2-mantle-lantern.aspx

Maybe this could be a rare drop?
