Light sources
Hey

Am I the only one who think the game lacks some long lasting light sources, that can be placed in your hideouts for maximum comfiness while the wind howls outside?
One idea could be harvesting sebum from wild game, and turn it into candles, just like people used to do before they started using stearin for candles.

I agree, it seems that the lanterns run for a very short time. I understand it is suposed to be used as a temporary light source while on the move but while placed I wished they lasted longer. I have a little LP gas lantern that lasts for days when I go backpacking. But like Trillby says, candles or some other light source would be awsome.

I agree. I've read a single crayon when lit lasts for 30 minutes. They could throw a box of crayons in the baby room at Pleasant Valley Farmstead =) Maybe even flashlights and batteries scattered around.

Just to add another comment, the night time storm ambiance in this game is just spot on. While the graphics may not be the best, the lighting, and sound are just a treat. It would be even better with the addition of some other low power light sources for a base camp.

yes i Agree and every house has candles. i have lot of candles at home. harvesting them is a good idea. And please make the windows getting oppened to see waht happens outside.
Tree sap is also a reliable source for (pretty) long fires cave men used to do this a lot. I haven't thought about animal fat, Which is a pretty smart idea tbh. Also the indoor lighting is still pretty crap. the fact that the indoor is usually an other area off the map (Separated by a loading screen) the lighting is affected only by the time of day. They should make houses more like the watch towers where the indoor lighting actually makes sense and doesn't reduce by 90% of the actual outdoor lighting for some inexplicable reason.

You're not the only one - candles have been suggested many times both here and on the Hinterland forums. Personally, I expect them to be introduced at some point.

While I do think this is a very good idea I feel like the candle would be overpowered. Deers, wolves, rabbits, and even bears in some cases are very easy to kill. Since you really only need a way to light the candle (matches, firestriker, magnifiying glass etc) it would be too easy and just replace the torch. I understand that the torch can scare wolves but who actually uses that anymore?

Like i suggested on another thread i made, having big lanterns that are already at a set location in some houses would be a neat addition.

Exemple given, the library in the pv farmstead. It could use fuel like lanterns but have 10x duration instead since it would be there only for that location.

Had the idea because i would like to read books at night when not tired.

Could be candles that you can only place and cannot move around with. "Due to wind and stuff"

Indoor lightning is more than fine since the last update.
Nah, it's dark as ♥♥♥♥ compared to the outside most of the time.

Thats a bug, its only dark the first and last hours of daylight inside. The rest of the day you can see every nook and crany. Huge improvement compared to before.

The car battery could be used to power some kind of lighting, why else would we be able to open the car hood ? there is never any loot in there, only that battery.

On another thread, I suggested that candles be placeable, then lightable, but go out when moved. That, or perhaps you can carry them lit only if you're "sneaking". Now that we have research, there's more incentive to have something like candles. Also would help with crafting.

Not to mention that lanterns are noisy. I keep trying to make builds, but the quiet hiss from the kerosene is driving me nuts.
