Rifle Holster

Anyone figure out how the holster works ? Supposedly if equipped it will reduce the weight of the rifle. I have a holster and a rifle -the rifle weighs 8.8 lbs without the holster but also 8,8lbs when the holster is worn (replacing the ear wraps). Tried various ideas about dropping rifle ,picking up etc so far nothing works.

Does it makes a difference if you have the rigle in your hands or not ?
It would make sense that the holster bonus doesn't work when you have the rifle in your hands.

From what I can tell if you have the holster equipped and have a rifle in your inventory it reduces your carry weight. In my game it halves the weight of the loaded rifle. I checked my carry weight with the headwrap and moose hide satchel equipped, then swapped out the headwrap for the holster and my carry weight reduced by 1.6 kg, the loaded rifle I am carrying weighs 3.2 kg

Edited to add: it does not change the weight shown in my inventory for the rifle, but it did reduce the total.

Can confirm, that's how it works for me too. :coffeeTLD:

Sorry - I should have been more precise-the backpack weight was the first thing I checked and it did not register a weight change with the holster. I dropped the holster,restarted the game and now it has registered about a 4lb loss when carrying the standard rifle.
