oak trees

are oak trees only in the new regions, or do they now spawn in every region? it wasn't really 100% clear to me after watching the update video

All regions because they said it was free content also for people who don't own the dlc.
Maybe more in some regions than others.

Can confirm, bunch of oak trees can spawn in Timberwolf Mountain. Seeing indications that they will spawn in saves begun before the update, as well as after.

found oak trees in my ~200 days run just now. in coastal highway behind the quonset where the bear usually spawns. 2 trees and another two by the rope climb to the silent clearing

I should have mentioned that I found acorns from those trees earlier. now I'm searching all of coastal highway for a hammer. I guess I'm glad heavy hammer has some use other than forging or smacking wolves at the cost of lots of weight.

Yes, some have acorns, some look like they've already been searched and are empty.

On Timberwolf, I spotted what were oak trees on the bluff near where cargo containers can be found across Crystal Lake from the Mountaineer Hut. There were several trees and they each had up to three spots to search for acorns. You get one acorn (0.05 kg) from each valid spot. Time will tell if the acorns spawn again.

This exact spot on my run has some trees with three spots that appear already searched. Others had three spots with acorns in each. Maybe that's just random in the same way cattails can spawn in slightly different spots.

What did anybody expect a cup of weak coffee to do?

I would expect that there would be some calories as well as a warmth bonus if the cup of acorn coffee was hot.

It does put a premium on finding the heavy hammer and having it available (i.e. not just left at a forging or fishing site) if one wants to make acorn coffee.

I heard that it has a nice-looking cup or mug for the acorn coffee when brewed.

When birch bark tea was introduced, I had wanted to have a drink that could be heated up with some calories and not much else. If pretty easily available then I might make more use of the brew than I do with birch bark tea.

I have not yet brewed any acorn coffee (no heavy hammer at hand).
