If you prefer more narrative-driven content, where you are following a story with characters and NPCs giving you objectives, then you are going to need the Wintermute DLC so you need "The Long Dark" version which has both survival and story mode combined. Note that the final part of the DLC is still unreleased, and should be available in 2025, completing the story mode.
If you want everything (survival and story mode) plus the soundtracks (which are amazing), then get the Quiet Apocalypse bundle.
Personally, I prefer survival mode to story mode as I like the open-world, sandbox experience where I create my own personal objectives. I recommend the DLC but the base game is a complete experience with a lot of content, even without the DLC.
