Rifles. Where'd they go?

Been looking for a while now. Went to places I found them in previous games. But now I only find pistols. I have 4 pistols with 30 ammo. 50+ ammo for rifles and can't find one.

I have also found this. Can't find a rifle or a hatch in Mystery Lake. I have checked all the usual locations. It was notable that the corpse at the destroyed lookout had not spawned. That corpse does sometimes have a rifle.

What difficulty are you playing? I can only speak for Voyager but I’ve found 3 rifles in mystery lake alone in 2 days. Are you aware that they updated the gear spawn locations when they split the code for the TFTFT release?

there’s one right at the back of the crater hydro dam where you enter via the window from winding river, it’s one of the new ones and has spawned in the same location in 3 different voyager runs, There’s a standard one in the gun rack in Trapper’s (and also a revolver in the safe). Finally the fishing huts on mystery lake (can’t remember which) also spawns one in Voyager

I don't have the latest DLC yet. I am playing on Stalker. I also read that there have been changes to the Prepper Caches in the lastest update so I assume there must have been a foul up somewhere by somebody.

Ah ha!... Can't even start the game without Steam. They must have introduced some form of DRM protocol recently. I ran the game for years in the past, without Steam running.

Now that is just beyond annoying!

@Small Ejector and bladerunner97..BIG Thanks. I did find one at the dam. Located in the room with the 2 turbines (i think that's what they are) up top on the rafters near the desk.
No more trying to hunt moose with a pistol !!

Go up to the summit of Timberwolf Mountain. There's almost always one inside one of the big airplane crates inside of the plane. Carter Dam almost always has a rifle in one of several locations. Usually in the turbine room up against a wall. The radio tower in Pleasant Valley has a high chance of having a rifle. They've cut back on the amounts of rifles you can find - I've found 5 pistols and 2 rifles so far through about 120 days. Been finding way more pistol ammo than rifle but I've only been to 4 regions so far. Corpses sometimes can spawn a rifle so don't ignore those circling crows.

Been all over the Dam. I have now also been all over Mountain Town region. No rifles to be found.

Did you get the DLC yet? I ran game w/o dlc and same thing. I loaded dlc and I found 2 rifles. One being Vaughn right away at the dam. Vaughn was at hunters cabin.

No I didn't get the DLC. In all honesty, for Hinterland who say "we care about our players" in the load up screen, if they really meant that then I shouldn't have to pay to get a game fix.

I'm also sceptical towards that message. Any studio who has to say "We care about our players" sounds dubious to me :)

I don't think you have to buy the DLC to get the rifle and if it is, then I think it's a bug which they'll have to patch.

I also read another thread lately that said the same thing. Guy went through 5 regions but couldn't find a rifle. So maybe something went wrong with the latest loot shuffle, otherwise, you gotta keep looking. Maybe there's no guaranteed spawn per region.

I'm on Day 40 of a Voyageur-run. I did a thorough check of Mountain Town, Mystery Lake, Costal Highway, Crumbling Highway, Desolate Point and Pleasant Valley (in that order) until I found a rifle just NW of the Pleasant Valley Farmstead (it's the spot where you find one of the lost survivors in Wintermute).

Since then I've been to Timberwolf Mountain and about a third of Ash Canyon. There was another rifle in the plane wreckage at the Summit, and another in the TM prepper cache. (But hey, I also found the Spelunker's Lantern!)

My guess? Rifle spawns have been greatly nerfed since the March 30th-update.

Same here, slightly different order for regions, but found only two rifles and almost no rifle ammo. I did find a slightly ridiculous amount of revolver ammo. I dislike the bow intensely for several reasons, and I don't use the revolver.

I don't mind the loot drop/shuffle at all, in fact I kind of like it. The crazy nerf on rifle drops is another story and absolutely annoying whether I play on Pilgrim or Voyageur. I haven't bought the DLC as of yet and likely won't consider it until it is complete. I only played the first two episodes of Wintermute because the extremely controlled and linear play just isn't my thing. I like open world and choosing my own path. Whether I purchase the DLC or not is going to depend on whether the loot is worth it. After reading through the reviews and discovering how the devs did Interloper players, I may not purchase it just on principal. So many of them purchased it and only afterwards discovered they only had a choice to play levels they don't like, or come to terms with being basically ripped off after buying a DLC that gives them nothing. I played interloper exactly one game day just to get the achievement ... but if it was my preferred level I'd be extraordinarily rankled. My purchase may hinge on the devs at least giving interloper players an option in the custom settings to get all or some of the DLC content.

For now, I'm considering dropping back to the Time Capsule. I hadn't played for about 4 years and only reloaded the game to see whether or not the DLC would make another few runs worth it. Imo it might be when the DLC is complete ~ and if the people chortling over the lack of rifles, ammo, and availability of DLC additions decide to make the game enjoyably playable for all players.

As long as there are standard rifles still in the game. I agree with you guys that one for each region was excessive. I'm on Day 110 of a stalker run and have 22 rounds of rifle ammo with no rifle. If there's only two on the entire island I am okay with that; just as long as I do have the possibility of getting a rifle and it's not a bug.
