They seem to be a bit more hidden. I've only found them twice - once when I was travelling between the camp office and trappers homestead in Mystery Lake.
Then there was a group of 3 well off the beaten path in Carter River, behind the hydro dam. When you get down to the river from the dam, go straigh across to the other side of the frozen river and scout along the top of the hillside there. They were hidden away a bit, but it was nice to find 3 at once.
Good luck!
As for ML, as said between the office and trappers, but, that might not be enough description, as that encompasses a whole lot of area depending on the route you take. Near the dam, across the little creek. Back side of clear cut. Valley across tracks from office continue heading down the valley that seperates unnamed pond and deadfall area.
As for PV, they can be anywhere and I am quite certain that I never have checked the whole map and possibly never will. Just too many areas. I can remember where I've found some saplings on that map but can't remember which type.
Just remember where you do find them on your current run doesn't garuntee they will spawn there next time. Initially saplings would spawn in groups of 3 or 5 depending on the type, after deep forest, each type can now spawn a solo sapling or 2 as well as the 3 or 5.
Keep looking and good luck.
I found a group of 5 maple saplings recently below Skeeters Ridge in PV.
