Where are the Maple Saplings?!?
Ok so I understand that the saplings are meant to be kinda rare but this is stupid i am just pasted day 30. I have been to every location in the Coast about 60% of the Valley and every location of the Lake but have yet to see a single maple sapling yet I have found over 20 birch sapling however. Is there some kind od glitch or somthing giving me birch and no maple? I have even been to places I have seen others find maple in videos and have found birch instead am I just super unlucky or something?

I recommend hunting for yourself, but if you want some tips from my experience then read on.

---

They seem to be a bit more hidden. I've only found them twice - once when I was travelling between the camp office and trappers homestead in Mystery Lake.

Then there was a group of 3 well off the beaten path in Carter River, behind the hydro dam. When you get down to the river from the dam, go straigh across to the other side of the frozen river and scout along the top of the hillside there. They were hidden away a bit, but it was nice to find 3 at once.

Good luck!

A search of the forums will give you all the info needed to find them. They are spawned on each map every playthrough. On CH I have found them on the little islands near jackrabbit island, up near the lookout, coming down the hill from the railroad towards the lone cabin, and on the hillsides between paths and the paved roadways. Try getting off the beaten path if you haven't already. Sometimes saplings are within sight of paths or roads, more often than not they are hidden from those areas. Sometimes only by the slightest degree.

As for ML, as said between the office and trappers, but, that might not be enough description, as that encompasses a whole lot of area depending on the route you take. Near the dam, across the little creek. Back side of clear cut. Valley across tracks from office continue heading down the valley that seperates unnamed pond and deadfall area.

As for PV, they can be anywhere and I am quite certain that I never have checked the whole map and possibly never will. Just too many areas. I can remember where I've found some saplings on that map but can't remember which type.

Just remember where you do find them on your current run doesn't garuntee they will spawn there next time. Initially saplings would spawn in groups of 3 or 5 depending on the type, after deep forest, each type can now spawn a solo sapling or 2 as well as the 3 or 5.

Keep looking and good luck.

Hey thanks for the feedback, I just spent 24hours in Carter River searched behind every hill and rock I could reach didn't find a single maple sapling though I did manage to make a wolf kill about 15 rabbits for me lol. I'm gonna try Pleasent valley again I didn't spend much time off the beaten path there the first time maybe i'll get lucky this time.

Finally found some maple saplings! Found a pair of them about halfway between the hunters blind and the Carter river cave exit on the steep side of a hill

Thats great! Keep searching, you'll need more if you keep on living. The dev's place high regards to the exploration aspect of the game, thus the sometimes out of the way spawns. I think it's great that they "get it". By that I mean the feeling of elation when you come across something new of great value, such as bunkers and saplings. They create not only a desire but a need to get out and explore.

Found birch saplings on the way to the trapper's homestead in ML, and maple ones directly across the river from the dam. You need to go under the bridge and you'll find them, along with mushrooms. Now if I could just find a bear...

Like the saplings bears don't always spwan in the same places each run. You can check near unnamed pond, the valley behind the barn near trappers, the clearcut area, or the back side of mystery lake in the area of lone cabin and the fishing hut back there.

Pleasant valley has lots of maple saplings, i usually find 7-9 per playthrough. Try checking around the radio tower (in that general area). Some always spawn in that area, at least for me.

It appears to be quite random. In my other playthrough, I only found 3 or 4 single maple saplings across all three regions. This time, I have found groups of 4 and 5 maple saplings both on pleasant valley. (Now to find some birch ones!)

I found a group of 5 maple saplings recently below Skeeters Ridge in PV.
