Let me use my hatchet as a weapon ?
I think it would be fun to just be able to have it on and switching onto it by pressing 2 to equip a weapon

let me have one chance to swing it at the charging wolf

it could be not enough to kill him and he would get ontop of me still but he would be damaged

( I know about the bonus you get when you struggle with the wolf but its not real melee )

i like the game so far but not being able to even hold the axe in your hand is disappointing and not realistic

But you do use the hatchet as a weapon, pay more attention durring hand to hand combat in the lower left corner. The hunting knife gives a 40% bonus while the hatchet gives less. There are no axes in this game also.

Wolves leap in a blink of an eye, it's unrealistic to catch a wolf mid air with a hatchet.
BUT it would be nice to implement a chance (10-20%?) to cut down a wolf if a hatchet is equipped when he leaps. And still use the knife if that chance fails and close combat is inevitable.
What do you think?
Afterall, our hero has an hatchet equipped when facing 2 wolves in the "Splah-image" of the game.

Have you ever been charged by a wolf before? I don't think many people would actually know how to fight off a deranged wolf after they crashed into the wilderness.

They really should add this +1 An easy way for them to balance it is to have the wolves roam in packs :D

I don't get why everyone here in this community make such a big deal out of wolfs
if you get hit by a pack of wolfs sure you are a goner but 1 wolf? and you have a hatchet! i will put my money on you not the wolf...

and yes you could just hit him right in the head when he jump and kill/wound him or you could miss and he would still get on top of you but atleast let us try

I also like to use the Hatchet ,Knife etc. like the rifle and see the interaction not just use them in background. ,I like to see how i hit the wolf or a bear with a hatchet or knife..., how i forage, how i cook.... That will be fine.

yes and also they should add spears for crafting they would be really useful
technically they should be already possible to make from the materials you have in the game

caveman used them to hunt and to protect themselves so why we cant ?:)

this game would be so great if they add active melee

this...

since i first played the game i wondered why they didnt implement such simple weapon like a spear...as it is now you only have the rifle and the bow (which isnt that easy to craft anymore, i mean the arrows for it)...

I had my fare share of wilderness survival in the past (having relatives in northern canada helps) and we always made spears first when we were out for a few weeks hunting...they are great walking sticks in rough terrain and you have a last resort weapon if something happens...

The difference here is that we are the ones being hunted. It may not be in the human form of "hunting," but make no mistake, we are easy targets for the wolves. Just like we scope out our prey and use our strengths to defeat it, so do they. People don't know how to react appropriately when ♥♥♥♥ gets real. No amount of wilderness survival with other people (and walking sticks???!! lolol) and learning to make a bow in boy scouts is gonna save you...

im aware of the situation depicted in the game, nevertheless is it not that different like it was a few thousand years ago...sure we are prey for every big predator out there, but the difference is that we can build proper weapons from nearly everything. And the walking stick thingy: cut a tree limb, make it sharp on one end and you have a spear, use the unsharpened end to lean onto it and you have a walking stick. Try to hike with 20-40kg on your back through northern woods and you will be very thankful after a while to have a stick with you for stabilizing.

But i agree with you that people dont react well when alone in the wilderness, because we have no need to hunt for survival and are indeed the alpha predator on this planet. Because we have our brains on our side.

My first encounter with wolves in canada was like a horrible nightmare from my childhood come true...BUT: If humanity wouldnt survive such odds then we would be long extinct. People adapt and survive.

I think it'd take away from the game if melee weapons were the same as the rifle and bow in terms of usage. While hopefully the melee system takes a drastic change, that is not the way to do it.

Just to let you know crafting a bow would be much harder than crafting a simple spear
it would take days you would need to dry the wood and bend it over the fire into a straight shape etc if you want to see how long it is you should check this video ( it has 5 parts )
https://youtu.be/6eWDgNrLYps

crafting bow in this game is very easy and unrealistic

Definitely add spears and active melee combat.
