Frostbite happens when you have your feet/ hands or head not covered by clothing. Also, 100% wet clothing or frozen clothing has 0% protection, it's the same as not wearing any.
That's what happened o me and probably what happened to you as well.
I don't know mods well enough but it's probably your best bet if you want to cure this uncurable affliction.
Otherwise, it's not a death sentence and you can still complete all the achievement with this affliction on as I did.
Probably it's because my gloves were frozen but I saw that my temperature was alright so when I went to sleep I woke up with the frostbite.
I think it would be nice that maybe when you are sleeping/cutting outside branch/fishing, the game will make you automatically stop what you're doing so you can prevent.
For example when you are reading the book and you become thirsty it stops you, so why can't be like that even in other things?
Anyway, I'm on 86 days now, Iìll survive as I can, when I die I'll probably unistall the game and play other games, maybe I'll check in the next 5 years as I done this time ahah!
Thanks for the response
So no magic cure by default. Although I guess that's not true anymore, what with the 'cheat death' option and all.
When one gets frostbite RISK that means that the unprotected (which includes frozen coverings) extremity no longer benefits from whole body warmth known as Feels Like Temperature and must be managed as a separate action. It is necessary to get a covering or thaw a frozen covering to reduce frostbite risk and it is not a one and one deal for it needs to be monitored to be sure that the risk is going down and further action taken if warranted.
As a permanent affliction it warrants the extra attention for once one gets the frostbite affliction there is no going back.
Only Hypothermia and a hint to warn you about that. This game likes to surprise people.
It has been a part of the game that when you go to sleep you are committed to that act until you reach the time limit you specified or you have become fully rested (barring the effects of
Insomnia getting you up, if you have that affliction). It is up to the player/character to review their state and take any possible corrective actions before they "go to sleep". Otherwise they're just taking their chances of an adverse outcome.
There is no "guardian angel" in the game (i.e. no hand holding) to warn the player if they are doing something that may adversely affect them (other than the "do you want to eat that raw meat" warning when using the radial menu).
Good luck on your run.
It was an unlucky moment, I was at Desolation Point and running from a Bear to my igloo, the weather was calm and sunny and I thought I could rest because my sleep was on red.
It's probably a personal fact that I can't stand that I have a permanent affliction, it's something that make me loose interest in the game.
