Any way to get back from Winding river / Carter dam cave system?

Pretty much what the title says. I used a door to go out from Carter Lower Dam, and to my surprise, the door ended up being one way. I proceeded to explore the Winding river area, only to find it's a dead end after all. I found an entrance to Carter dam cave system, but, like a normal cave system would, this one goes down, and has no obvious indication of it going up someplace else. I have a lantern, but it has a pretty limited amount of fuel, so before I go waste it in vain in the cave system, I'd like to know if there is a way to get back to the rest of the game area, or am I stuck in just these two now?

The way back into the dam is on the other side, you have to follow the ledge across to a broken window.
The cave system leads to Pleasant Valley

Walk to the other side of the dam ... there is a small ledge ... climb trough window ...

heh. Just found the ledge. Say, any basic directions to said 'Pleasant valley'?

The cave takes you to PV. There's a large cavern half way into the cave where there's some loot, then there's an upward slope to the PV exit. You can't get lost.
