Unable to hit bear with flare gun

Hi

I am unable to land a hit with flare gun on a bear. TWM, bear by the lake. I am now after 10 failed attempts, shooting the bear at point blank range to the center of the mass when he's standing up or to the head when he's charging at me. The flare always lands directly behind the bear (as if it was transparent/no collision box for flare). It does not stick to the bear/no blood splatter but scares it and stops the charge each time, no mauling.

This was my common bear hunting strategy for 1000+ hours mostly on interloper, but it's not working anymore. Did something change to the mechanics recently? I have not played TLD for 2 years.

Was happening to me too. The trajectory or hitbox changed or something, idk. You just have to aim a bit higher than what it use to be, still works. Almost feels like you're shooting it above it's head

All I can say since I haven't seen what sight picture the OP gets when firing the distress pistol is the distress pistol is not a firearm and has nothing like "gun sights". There is no point of aim.

Use the top rail on the device as a "sight" and you will tend to shoot low. Of course the further away the target the lower the flare will hit.

FWIW, use the hammer spur which, while not on top of the device, actually seems to align with the alignment of the flare and it seems a bit more precise about where the flare flies and will hit for a short distance.

If there were any other changes, I have not a clue.

start a run on a lower diff and use it to train your aim , helped me alot

Thanks for feedback, this worked fine. Actually first attempt at aiming higher and I landed a crit killing Ol'Sooty on the spot xD

I've killed many a bear by firing a flare directly at his head when about 2 feet in front of me.
