I can wait.
Actually, if I wasn't backing up my save, I would be worried to lose it to this cougar.

It'll be interesting for sure. I back up my saves too so as long as the cougar isn't just over the top over powered, I should be OK.

I wonder if they will introduce any special recipes (either crafting or food) with the new animal?

I don't know that I "can't wait", but I am really interested to see how it acts and where it will be (region-wise). Will it only be found in one or two regions, or will it be in any region with high cliffs and mountains? Will it only hunt me if I enter its territory (moose-like territorial behavior) or will it stalk me, waiting for an opportunity to launch a more protected attack from behind or above? Will it do "alpha"wolf type of damage, regular wolf type damage, or bear type damage? Will we be able to fight back, and if so- how will we be able to fight back? I don't imagine revolvers doing much damage (shots or pistol whipping), but may be a greater deterrent from a distance? Will it bleed out but have the possibility of doing so in an inaccessible high-up location (would make sense to me), or will it be a mini-boss like the Moose where we have to chip away at its HP?

So- I am not "looking forward" to it being added, but I am- also not wanting to wait much longer to being able to have my questions answered and finding out what my strategies will need to be to deal with it in different modes (Pilgrim vs. Voyageur vs. Stalker vs. Interloper). I don't expect it to be true-to-life, but I do expect it to be interesting and challenging.

@Ifi, I agree. ^^ I'm intensely curious to see what it's behaviors will be.

I just hope it's range won't be limited to the FT.
Yeah, that's one of my big questions. Will everyone get the Cougar, or will it be locked to the DLC?
FT makes sense, especially the Mountain Pass region when it is added. But I would not be happy to encounter one in any of the beginner regions- walking down the Lake Trail or going to Alan's Cave in ML and being ambushed by one would feel bad. But I would expect it TWM, AC, or HRV. Advanced and Expert maps only is what I am hoping for if it is added to the game for everyone.

Considering what's on here I'm pretty sure it'll only be those that buy the dlc that get it.

https://www.thelongdark.com/expansion/

Everything that's under "Free Updates" is what everyone gets regardless of whether they buy it or not. The cougar isn't under there, it's only listed above in the "paid content" area.

well considering they've now put in a magical mist, a zombie wolf, and a glow in the dark bear... I'm calling a pink flying cougar
Endeffect May 1, 2024 @ 1:09pm
cougar needs to be in the free updates i think since they promised them before the dlc announcement...

or would be a a case of false advertisment

what a luck for those who do not have the dlc...

Just verified that the version the Switch is using as of this moment is 2.00.91441

Same as a few days ago.

Also...cougar? I've been afraid of it since it first appeared on a road-map for TLD back in 2017 I think. Sure it will be worth experiencing, but I don't think my survivor is going to like it.

same. Cougar gives me big spooky vibes since they are dedicated ambush predators. Idk, maybe i'm just too concerned about a level of realism I shouldnt expect. WOLVES are ambush predators too, but all the wolves bark at you first before they pursue you.

So Raph just posted a small tease on the forum it concerns the cougar. It will be in part 5 of the dlc.

Exactly this. The wolves in the game are in no way, shape, or form, even remotely realistic. Wolves hunt in packs. Not in TLD. One at a time. One barks, one stands and growls, the others couldn't care less. The animation when a wolf attacks you, show it gnawing on your arm. You have any idea how powerful a wolf's jaws are ? They'd crunch through your bones like they were chewing a pretzel, but all we end up with is a boo-boo. I'm not expecting the cougar to be any more realistic (although I am kinda excited to see how they're implemented and what we can do with the pelts.... I want a cougar hat, complete with tail, Davy Crockett style)

ALL I WANT IS A DECENT PAIR OF PANTS. to compete with deerskin I mean. decent warmth but higher wind resist and damage resist at cost of more weight would be cool.
or maybe an alternative recipe for the satchel.

I don't expect too much from the Cougar Pelt. It depends on what the region is like. Does it make sense to live there, what are the risks of hunting him. The region is definitely at the end of the regular world :D. For my part, I have only entered the new regions once. That's enough :) too much running. So no matter what you can make out of the cougar fur, I don't think it's worth the effort :P
IFIYGD May 4, 2024 @ 2:12am
I am still hoping for a blanket that we can carry or equip, that weighs a good bit (same amount as the pelt, or slightly more if we have to sew fabric into it). Something we can add to a bedroll, or a bed to increase warmth- or even something that we can lay on the bare ground in place of a bedroll that would give a warmth increase, but not as much as a bedroll. (Forgot you bedroll? Good thing you have your blanket!) Or that we can equip (snuggle up!) to wear while fishing or traveling. A packable blanket may or may not be worth it for some players- but there are some Lopers who would probably appreciate it, as well as anyone who has asked to be able to lay down to sleep on the floor without a bedroll.
The Cougar does appear that it will be DLC only content, but that doesn't mean it will only be found in the new DLC regions. All Raph has said on the online forums is that its attack is terrifying. https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/44957-tales-part-five-tease/?do=findComment&comment=277240
But with all of the speculation going on in that thread, he has not confirmed or denied anything else. (My nightmare of walking down the Lake Train and being ambushed from above by a Cougar still lives on...).
I *might* be willing to hunt Cougar if I get a warm blanket out of it. *Might*.

I am looking forward to the cougar. I play FOY and the big cats in that are very well done.
