Interloper - everything sucks
I dont understand how are you supposed to survive this. Matches are nowhere to be found. Fartherst i went is day 2.

In my current game i was spawned in Black Rock, an area im familiar with at least. Somehow made it to the prison. I have enough toilet water and cattails to last maybe another day but after that im ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Im at low condition. No matches anywhere naturally. Cant go into the Steam Tunnels because i have no light source.

Went outside the barracks to look for matches. Found none. Died on the way back, steps away from the shelter.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ low condition debuff makes character uncontrollable. Another time i died today because my idiot step into the campfire i was using to boil water.

Interloper requires you to know all of the maps really well. Where landmarks are, where shelter is, where loot is likely to spawn, where matches or a mag lens or a firestriker is more likely to be found. And even then, the game's RNG can and will screw you over.

If you aren't enjoying it, don't play it. There is no contest here to see who is the BiggestBaddestMostSuperLoperUberKillinMachine. Games are supposed to be fun. Play the mode that you find the most fun. Get to know the maps more extensively. Go back in and try a different mode if you want to, but don;t feel like you have to just because someone on your friends list or on the forums says you aren't as good as they are.

Play what you enjoy. I don't enjoy Loper much, I only play it from time to time to see how well I know the more challenging maps. Then I go back to playing Stalker, because I really enjoy playing Stalker. If something isn't fun, I don't do it- unless someone is paying me big money to do it. And no one is paying me anything to play this game.

Play what you enjoy- games are supposed to be fun.

As soon as i started complaining - game took mercy on me lol. Did not found matches still, but i have storm lantern, distress pistol, flare (can use it to start campfire to boil some water) and a lot of food.

Will see how it goes this time, will probably start new game on stalker afrer i die, thank you.

A bit unrelated but I just wish wolf behavior would be more realistic to real life wolf behavior on all modes. In real life almost all lone wolves are scared of adult humans, and in this game they carelessly attack you. Ruins the immersion quite a bit. Kind of forces me to play Pilgrim which is just way too easy given all the loot and mild weather etc. Can of course play with custom settings, but I feel like it should be other way around where aggressive wolves would be custom option only, and maybe interloper, but not the other 3 difficulties.

It was also difficult for me after fixed match spawns were changed. Just need to loot all places properly to not miss stuff. If u can't find stuff and maybe die because of that just try again and again.

Example: I had Forlorn Muskeg start and went to check forge because that was location for fixed matches previously and maybe could spawn random matches, but no matches there and got -20% permanenet loss to condition due to frostbites so then tried to survive as long as possible and run around looting other places for the future, I checked those cabins near the forge and tried to get hunters blind but went through the ice in blizzard, so that was it for that run. Now very recently I got same spawn in Forlorn and this time went to Poacher's Camp(derailed train cars) and found matches and a flare there so now I assume fixed match spawn in FM is there (+fixed flare spawn?), so next time in a FM spawn going there again.

Interiors are so dark now in the game that almost impossible to find stuff because that tiny aim-dot has to hit right on matchbox which is very small item(also toher items that are small/thin can be missed), irl u wouldn't be so "blind" in darkness because u got two hands to feel out shelves, walls, surfaces etc your're touching.
This bothers me in some other games too that in pitch black darkness u can't "feel" your way around at all. Can't even tell if I'm looking straight ahead or up/down cause can't "feel" my neck/head-position in the game.
U can use bedroll to navigate in darkness and maybe use it for looting too, just select to place bedroll opened and move it's position around and with that u can see objects around you.

Wise, wise words. I did a 100 day interloper run, I guess just to prove to myself that I could, and it was BY FAR, the least fun I've ever had in the game. Straight back to Stalker, for me and I never looked back. It just seems, watching the big TLD streamers, that memorization is a large part of successful interloper runs ... so the hacksaw is in one particular place, so, recalling the Loot Tables as laid out by streamers, that means the heavy hammer on this run is in... etc, etc. That's no fun. That's a chore.

I dont like how interloper gives me gun books and materials to craft ammo for guns, even though guns dont spawn.

Counterpoint: Stalker, for me, is incredibly boring because literally everything is just handed to you on a silver platter and the most challenging aspect of it is trying to figure out what to do with the literal mountains of loot. Interloper is the only mode that has any challenge at all and it's getting easier with every new update.

Yeah I'm currently on a stalker playthrough, wolves are the most common on this difficulty and theres at least 1 or 2 wolves around every corner, you just gotta let them chase you and don't let them get too close lol. But I agree, I wish very much that wolves acted more realistically in this game, I hope wolves get an overhaul in the future.

OP --

It's fine to come here asking for help with the game, but please keep the language clean, and also consider less inflammatory thread titles. "Interloper -- Need Help!" would be a more appropriate title, and would attract people with the info you are looking for.

To each, their own. I don't play for the "challenge", I play for fun and to certain extent, relaxation.

Unlikely, after all this time. Mind you, they're allowing you to rise from the dead, like a latter day Lazarus, so, who knows. Huh. I guess if you're in the Zone Of Green Guff, you'd be a zombie survivor fighting zombie wolves...

Start Interloper games until you spawn in Desolation Point, a small map and you will find matches there, perhaps a flare.

When make the first fire, take 10 or more torches from the fire, this will warranty that the next match used will lit a fire, lit the torch first, so you can try lit the fire several times expending just one match.

In good weather you can "carry fire", lit torches in torches (chaining), bunus a wolf deterrent.

Don't boil just 2 or 3 liters of water, boil 15 - 20... early in game you have good weight carry capacity, this make the first match box last longer.

Interloper is easy, just need to adapt to their mechanics.

Matches are more scarce in this difficulty.
When you find some, try to make the most of it by boiling a lot of water and get torches in order to use it for your next fire and waste only one match: light the torch and then light a gire using the torch. That way if you fail to start the fire, you still have a lit torch and can retry using the same torch and not waste a match.

Started at black rock and by sheer luck discovered a way out of here. Ended up in Pleasant Valley. Currently on day 10. While im still alive, but just barely. Rabbits are not very nutritious, im mostly subsisting on cattails. Cold is oppressive, even after i fixed my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ clothes. Soon the guts will finish curing and will make rabbit hat and mittens, but i dont think it will be enough either. Not sure where to go next.

Don't sit in one place farting with rabbits that early. Warm up or get a full night's sleep when you stop, but otherwise keep on the move. New places = new loot. Starving only costs 1% of your condition per hour. It takes four days to starve to death. Head for Mystery Lake.
