Where did the HUD go?
So I haven't played in a while, then came back to see what changed. Did the HUD disappear, or am I just not figuring out how to turn it on? I can't tell when I'm cold, hungry, etc. Are you supposed to just spam TAB now to check your stats every few minutes? It's really breaking the immersion for me, and is not fluid at all.

The minimalist HUD is supposed to help with the immersion i dont understand. The stat icons appear at the bottom left if they get really dire.
It doesn't make sense. Generally speaking, in real life the average person realizes they're cold more than 3 minutes before they freeze to death, or they realize they're hungry more than an hour before they starve to death. In this game, if you get too immersed and you forget to spam TAB to see what's going on, you'll suprise! die. Is there a HUD mod out or something? I really hate this change.

Yes, the HUD was modified, although awhile ago now. One thing that can help you inhabit your character a bit more without checking your stats with TAB so often is to listen to the audio cues. A lot of information about your condition is communicated that way as well.

I guess I'm not understanding the issue. Of course, I'm also playing on the Xbox, so maybe there's minute changes. But my condition icons show up when the appropriate meter is about a quarter full. Then when they get depleted, the percentage starts to dwindle. I never feel rushed to satisfy them, unless I was in the middle of a project or I was asleep, and it took a large percentage off of the condition.

In terms of realism, the character notes when hunger, cold, or thirst are starting to set in. Even if you don't hear it, as I said, the icons appear before it actually starts to affect you.

If hitting tab (or Y-Left Bumper) is all it takes to break immersion for you, then I'm sorry for your condition and I'll pray for a speedy recovery.
I'm sorry you're such a shameless, petty jerk that you'll troll someone for asking a question you disapprove of.

Guess I'll wait for a HUD mod.

Check the bottom left of your screen; there are icons now that show your condition. There is also an icon that shows if you are walking in a wind protected area. If there is a critical condition, your percent will show and start to decline until you fix whatever is ailing you. It is really a quite efficient way to track yourself, even for an old granny like me <smile>.

I like the newer version of the HUD since it only displayes when there is something for you to deal with. I have never felt like I had to 'spam' TAB to keep on top of my status.

That being said, maybe it wouldn't be too hard to give players a HUD choice if they want the more intrusive, older version? I am not a programmer so I really don't know how much trouble it would be to give people the option.

I'd like to see a settings slider for how sensitive those icons are in the lower-left corner. New players would probably want them to show up earlier, more experienced players might not want to see them until the situation is dire.

Overall I prefer a minimalist HUD.

let the Hud Open plz or put a On/Off switch...that informations are SO important in a survival game. It's really breaking the immersion for me too.

For me HUD's is that break the immersion.

The guy/girl are always saying "I'm hungry, thirst, tired, Is cold, this pack is heavy".
He/she complain all day. :))

But if you play in PC with controller or has one plugged, can use Joy2Key to make TAB be a ON/OFF command.

I use to press W - suffer tenosynovitis in left hand.

Macrogamer allow set macros on keys, not sure if has a kind of "toggle".

People saying that the hud is "immersive" - I've played the first 2 episodes with contextual HUD, and it appears to be a bug with episode 3

The "crosshair" doesn't show up, neither do prompts such as "open door" etc. Setting to always on also does not help.

It is an unspoken rule in the north to keep your complaining down to a dull roar as it robs you and the people around you of morale. This was a poor decision to place crucial information in that form. This is why it is so wildly unpopular. No one has anything against the great actors voicing these lines. It is simply a matter of psychological survival.
