Walking simulator?
I see this game is tagged 'walking simulator' on the store page. This is generally a bad thing meaning the game is easy/a mostly scripted narrative game with shallow gameplay. Is this the case? The game looks really cool but before I buy, I would want some people to confirm that the gameplay is good, challenging, and deep.

Challenging? Hell yeah is it challenging. There isn't a story mode yet, that is still in the works, but the mechanics of the game are very well polished. I think some people would tag it as walking simulator because you do have to walk a very long ways to get to some things. This game is hard core, and it's not really meant to be an easy survival game. It's meant to be realistic and unforgiving

It definitely is challenging and very easy to die... And cry.

Depending on how you choose to play, there can be a lot of walking, but it's nowhere close to the "bad walking simulators". There's a sprint button, for godssake, and you can travel really quickly if your load is light.
EDIT: IDK about story mode, though . . . if you buy it just for that you could be disappointed.

I hate walking simulators, I love this game...... there is a lot of walking around but its only because the areas you can explore are huge. its challenging enough I would reccomend that you start out in pilgrim mode in Mystery lake and spend some time exploring and learning how to survive before you go for a voyager game, if you get a couple of rough starts it can be really frustrating at first when you dont know the area and are trying to find shelter in bad weather while your starving and freezing and you come over the hill to find none of those things but a hungry wolf instead who promptly jumps on your face. That being said once you get into the groove of things and manage to pull off your first 3 day base transition to another map, or finding one of the hidden bunkers just as youve run out of supplies ...pretty dam good feeling. i also think its one of the few games that really rewards you for putting some time and thought into what your doing, which is nice.

People tag with dumb, ignorant, nonsensical ♥♥♥♥ all the time. Did you know you could add and vote on tags even if you don't own the game? What in the name of sweet merciful ♥♥♥♥ is Valve thinking lately? But there you are. User tags on Steam are generally more helpful if you totally ignore them and do your own research.

This game is not for everyone, but it is very good for many players. Go into the reviews, look at the bad first, if you can identify with any of the downsides they describe then look at when it posted and check if this problem was fixed. Then take a look at the good or ask away here, this forum is very healthy. If you do buy it, please come back in this thread and tell us about your adventures.

Not everyone buys games from Steam. Most of them are available on disk or for direct download.

if you buy this game start on on anything but stalker and prepare to die no matter how good you think you are. That is the true fun in this game,Knowing you can die at any second and its going to happen is the fun part.I have died hundreds of times the first few days of a new character and everything is killing you is the fun of surviving .Once you get kitted out and know what your doing it does slow down. This the only game I love to die in because I get to start over and I might might get the elusive "at night and in a blizzard"start" thats where you start dying in minutes"ohh and on random map so you might not know where you are .The only time on my account thats not stalker is where I have let my kids play. This game is well worth the money and developers earn their pay.Hinterland games is THE model of how developers should act when they do an early release alpha game .thanks hinterland

In this game you walk and you run to stay alive. And you take decisions. And any decision made could mean fatal error.

On disk? Not so much lately. A lot of indie devs use steam so they can skip manufacturing disks and steam is a good platform for people to sell games. Direct download I'd say is even starting to die.

Walking simulator just means there is a lot of walking around gameplay. And there is.

That only confirms how bad mechanics this game has. Normally, you would stop harvesting to save your life. But here, by one click you commit to a sever hour activity, which is later compressed to 5 seconds. While 1 second can be 2 hours in game, everything may happen during that 1 second and you may not be able to react in time. The weather may change and you can die accidentally. Seriously? An accidental frezing during harvesting a bear. And of course a perma death after so much time put into you character. Joke.

People saing in this very thread that the game is chalenging and deep are newbies. The game has well known bad mechanics that you can exploit like hibernation, bears stoping on torches every time, wolves attacking in the same pattern every time and more. There in nothing deep in this. That is only their imagination. They play the game and they imagine non existing things. And above that is walking. The game is not worth 20€

Yes,it is very challenging. The people who say it's bad game-guys,it is alpha.Ofcourse alpha games are not that good. There is a long long way for the developers to finish the game. But i believe that the next update (we are waiting a long time for that) will be nice!
