Travois really worth it?
I’m debating on making this because I feel like being able to make more bows is more valuable long term.

I understand. I began a new voyageur game 2 days ago, and i feel there is more Marple than in old games. And once the travois is done, you only need deer and gut to repair it .

Yeah, there are far more maple saplings than there used to be, basically because you need them to make the travois. There are plenty of maple saplings to craft multiple bows and craft the travois.
For me, I am using it to haul large amounts of firewood and coal, or to haul a quartered bear or moose short distances to get it to a safe place to harvest. I have not found it to be great for trying to haul large loads from one region to another, but other people are using it that way.
The more you put into it, the slower your character will move, smelly stuff in it will attract predators if you are playing in a mode that has hostile wildlife, and it is treated like a container- meaning anything at 0% that would despawn in any other container will also despawn in the travois.

I love it! Especially using it to transport bear in Mountain Town. Used to take me at least 3 trips to get back to base.

Thanks that's good information. I wasn't bothering with it because i heard it deteriorated really quick and thought it needed maple to repair. I will give it a go now.

Food does not smell in my Travois. And yes you should get one they are a real game changer for hunting and transport. I carry repair materials on me since they kinda degrade fast. Takes 1 Deer 1 Cloth to repair

Raw and cooked meat and fish and quarters cause the Smell-o-meter to rise, raw uncured guts are really stinky. Hides (raw or cured) do not smell, cured guts do not smell, store-bought food does not smell, and I am pretty sure the food from recipes does not raise the scent level. 1 squiggle on the Smell-o-meter will attract predators, but they have to be fairly close. 2 attracts them from a little further away, 3 attracts them from quite a distance.

At least some food from recipes can be dropped with the decoy button (rabbit stew for example), so I'm not so sure about it not being stinky. But of course it's nothing compared to raw guts.

It's great for hunting. It's also useful when clearing out a map and moving things to the "edge" of the map to stage transportation to another map.

I believe you can repair the travois with a cured deer hide and a cured gut. Repairing is sustainable/renewable.

The travois requires a cured deer hide and a cured gut as materials and takes 60 minutes with a knife (78 with an improvised knife), 90 minutes with a hatchet and 120 minutes by hand. No work bench needed for the repair. I believe that the maximum repair is 70%.

So it degrades subjectively fairly quickly but can be repaired from materials most of us have plenty of and the repair can be by hand if no tool is available so things kind of balance out.
