cooking ingredients are not endless
So we have now a lot of recipes, and besides of water and meat from different animals there is only one ingredient we can do ourselves, right? This is -> broth.
But the receipts need other ingredients like 'Old Mill Flour', 'Cooking Oil', 'Maple Syrup', 'Running River Oats'. And we cannot produce these. This is a disadvantage, because one day if we don't have flour or oil, then this will be the end of cooking all these nice meals.
I don't know at this moment how to handle this. Should I collect all these ingredients from all maps and bring them to the ONE COOKING kitchen f.e. in PV farmhouse? Then i'm much more flexible and the duration will last longer. But this also means that's a lot of work and time to bring them all together.
what do you think?

I personally do not use Frontier Cooking except for specific circumstances and when the ingredients were readily available. If I think a location has pretty much no use for any cooking ingredients that turn up then I might move it elsewhere but otherwise I leave it in place.

It has been suggested that ingredients should be added to what can be washed up for beachcombing. Things like flour should be in some kind of container (to be realistic about it).

The devs might also consider some alternatives such as tallow from cooking meat as substitute for cooking oil. The fact that tallow would also be useful if candles were ever implemented would provide a competing use for it.

The real problem would be that the devs would have to do the backroom work before anything can be added to the game. So one can only hope they find the time to do so at some point.

I play on Voyageur - my run is at day 1400. To date I have carried all the Frontier Cooking items I have found back to the CH Fishing Cabins where it is stashed away in one of the cabins. Broth produced over time from ptarmigans is stored there as well along with all the potatoes, carrots, burdock and surplus rose hips I have found.

Food supply playing on Voyageur is not a concern so I have so far not done any cooking in favor of first collecting all the available recipes.

It is indeed a chore to carry all the ingredients back to one location but I would like to sort out just how much is actually available playing on Voyageur.

I play on Loper and you rarely get items in the same zone that allow you to cook a complicated dish. I don't even really bother with it. I may transport the items to a specific location within the zone and if i happen to have it all ill make something but otherwise I'm eating basic meat maybe a pie.

As other players have pointed out, this early implementation of the frontier cooking mechanic costs too much in relation to its benefits, especially if loot spawn is lower than normal. I personally have ingredients assembled at connector points (ML/PV/BR) to either make something that helps with carry weight or quick condition recovery for Interloper, but I haven't decided which recipes deserve the rare non-renewable stuff.

TLDR;I agree that this early version (I hope the devs are committed to tweaking this mechanic, despite their conviction to let go of the burden that is this game by next year) is a poorly-planned gimmick to promote the paid content.

Why do people want everything in the game to be endless when the entire aspect of the game is the opposite?...

I personally like the name "Iron Chef" for that challenge, rather than "Iron Will." Actually, I think I would like that to be a real challenge or feat, if possible, for one soul to taste all there is available in the Far Territory before (s)he dies. Certainly would add more motivation to it as it is currently implemented.

But yeah, it can be pretty annoying that the first implementation of many things in this game is non-renewable. Just look at crampons: one update adds them, one update adds repairs, and now after more updates we can make an improvised version.

I'm assuming similar will happen to Frontier Cooking, especially as the rest of the DLC pass (which still includes safe house customization) rolls out. Because, as it stands, it is more of a "neat" possibility rather than vital mechanic. To be clear, I am okay to theoretically lose some ingredients as it makes sense, but we need more replacements and recipes for long term, reliable cooking to keep it engaging. Otherwise we are just back to hunks of cooked meat.

Well it makes the entire frontier cooking redundant otherwise. You will be back to just eating meat slabs for the rest of the game.
This 100%. Challenge is fine. It is the struggle that makes the game, but something being impossible means you cannot work for it either.

Beach combing... i have found there is a lot more at the beaches now days. In fact i even saw a washed up metal container, 3 arrows, fishes, suitcases and a lot more... and i did not even aim for combing, just saw a lot at the edges, and i could get my hands on plenty without risking the ice braking.

So more or less, things are infinite (i got my hands on a new military pants at the beach even!)

Are you saying you've found the new recipe ingredients while combing? Because I sure haven't found any flour, etc. doing that.

Well what i do is i make multiple bases all over the places, the best possible places in each area then i use the spray can and tag them with the icon storage, then write in notes what is inside . that way i will remember which ingredients are and where and what so no need to haul all in one place it is less of a headache to bring everything to one place and if i find myself in a pickle well i got supplies in hand , because lets face it everything can happen in this game even if you are full geared up and feel invincible , so yeah that way i can have stuff nearby almost everywhere.

you barely get them on voyager in the same place. maybe if a map has a concentration of kitchens in a small area like mountain town, i was in FA a couple of days ago and i found only one bag of flower and one oatmeal.

On my current Voy run, I made it to the overlook cabin in FA, and waiting for me there was maple syrup, oil and flour. Instant pancakes!

I like the idea of stockpiling for a long run, but I wouldn't keep it all at just one spot, I'd pick regional places with 2 or more burner stoves (FA Mindful Cabin (1 burner but found all that stuff!), PV Farmhouse, BR Hunting Lodge, and whichever house in CH has the good stove). Oh and ML Camp Office which might be my preferred base along with the Trapper Cabin. The pot and skillet are heavy and I don't carry them.

Renewables: stuff like acorns, ptarmigan, I haven't figured out yet. Yeah I can plug a bird but then the rest of them fly off :/ And the acorn oaks, I think I've seen 3.

I am having the same problem. I am now at The Maintenance Yard after spending 3 weeks in ZOC. I have 2 flour, 12 carrots and 8 potatoes. Instead of transporting that to other bases. I will cook Thompson's Family Stew here and make peace with that. Maybe future runs we will have this worked out.

Tbh I don't think Hinterland is going to address this, the food that the special recipes allow you to make is too beneficial and imo shouldn't be "endless".
