Miner's Folly bear is invincible
This is the first time that I have been to Ash Canyon and I'm playing on Interloper. I have level 5 archery but the bear at Miner's Folly won't go down. I have shot 7 arrows into him: 2 head shots, 4 body shots, and one in his rump. I have also shot him 3 times directly in the face with the flare gun and on 2 of them, they stuck. He doesn't bleed, he doesn't die. After shooting him, I pass time in the cabin. When I come out, some of my arrows are on the ground and there is no blood anywhere. I have never had this much trouble getting a bear to bleed, especially with the flare gun. Not only do I need the food, but I wish I hadn't lost three arrows and three flares on him. If I finally get him, his hide better give me plate steel like protection.

That is weird. I had no problem taking out that bear, but I killed it without leaving the area with two lucky rifle shots from the wooden bridge area.

I did, however, have a problem with a wolf over by the Long Falls area. I shot him with my revolver on my way to the cave system over there, and when I came back through he wasn't bleeding anymore. I shot him again and went down to sleep out the night at the Angler's Den. When I returned the next day he was back without a scratch on him, so I shot him AGAIN. This time, I stayed in the area and passed some time until he bled out. I am very confident that it was the same wolf, since I searched the area very thoroughly after I finally killed him and couldn't find any other carcasses.

I think maybe me unloading the area was causing the animal to regenerate or something? I haven't had this issue with any of the other wolves at AC so Idk what to think about it.

Probable the cause of issue, I shoot a wolf near Angler's Den, he run away bleeding, I go for cabin, next day he are around in good health.

Make a fire inside the close area of Miner's Folly barn, shoot the bear and wait there.

It just got more strange... I put another arrow into him and then shot him in the face with a flare (this makes 8 arrows and 4 flares). He ran "through me" with the flare in him and then shook the flare loose after about 100 feet. I could see the arrow stuck in his neck but there was no blood trail. After shaking the flare loose, he started running toward me. He was sprinting and "pushing" against me with his head and I was impeding his path. This continued even when I changed directions but he never attacked.. probably because he was still scared from the flare shell. I got to the cabin about 45 seconds later, thankful that I didn't get attacked during that weirdness. This bear has to be glitched so I have to give up on him. Hugh Glass couldn't bring this beast down.

There was a post yesterday about the same bear, glitching and going "under" the terrain. OP found it by the snoring, shot into the ground and apparently killed it, but couldn't harvest it. Could be that your bear is dead, but hidden underneath the terrain?

No, he's still nearby.. walking, snorting, and being a pain. I am down to about 2000 calories so I have to move on. He is keeping any other wildlife from spawning up here so I have to keep pushing.

You could try luring him to the shed with the workbench, and use the warmer part of the shed as the safe zone for an easy headshot kill? If the bear doesn't die in one hit then you could just pass some time in the same part of the shed.

I had to use the flare gun in my case because I wasn't L5 at Archery yet so couldn't shoot at him with the bow while crouched.

He's taken 2 or 3 arrows to the face, another 5 to the body, and 4 flares to the face. I've probably killed 75, maybe even 100, bears in the past 3 years and this one is definitely glitched. He's in my rear view mirror at this point.

That does sound like an immortal bear... maybe restart the game and see if it's still bugged?

Waiting outside may have helped but I probably have only done that with 10% of the bears that I have ever killed. I usually wait indoors, or in a warm cave, and I've never had this problem before now. The way that he was "head-butting" me for 45 seconds straight leads me to believe that something else odd is happening. He's not a concern of mine any longer.

What is concerning me is... are there any "outside" caves in Ash Canyon that have a warmth bonus on Interloper? I don't mean a cave that is slightly less cold but a cave that is legitimately warm. I have found 4 or 5 caves and they were all still cold even with day 100 clothing (bear coat, combat/deer pants, rabbit gloves/hats, etc.). Cabin fever could be an issue soon and I don't trust the weather/fire here enough to sleep for more than an hour or two at a time.

In addition to Climber's Cave that Tod mentioned, there's a few outside spots that provide a warmth bonus. The closest one to Miner's Folly is on the trail toward the Mine. Just before you get to the rope down to the Mine, there's a tunnel/cave that provides the same warmth bonus as a cabin. Very helpful for making the journey to the Mine on Loper.

Also, try the open-ended cavelet that is east of Foreman's and south of Miner's Folly, a very short walk up from both locations - there's a makeshift bed "inside". I slept there almost every night, sometimes even without the bear roll, no wolves nearby, CF-free, and a very short way back inside in case you need to.

If you're closer to Angler's/Bitter Marsh, use the ruined fishing hut with the pot belly stove (can't be blow with the wind) to curve CF. The stick economy around the area is very solid and can sustain you even during multiple day blizzards.

And use Climber's Cave when you're in the high plateau down from High Meadow, or when using the Deer Clearing entrance.

The cavelet next to Foreman's? I discovered it too, but I did not check the temperature. Interesting and very good to know!

It's almost as warm as being inside a small cabin/hut!

I totally missed this small cave. Ash Canyon is HUUUGE! I don't spend much time in HRV but AC seems bigger by half. In spite of the size, AC feels easier to navigate than HRV so I am enjoying my first tour of this place. It is a good region for a late game challenge.. it feels right to die here.

There is a bug in the game where the bear can reset if you enter somewhere that has a load screen before the bear bleeds out. Try waiting outside for the bear to die. At miners folly there is a straw bed to the left of foreman's retreat you can use or use the barrel fire if you have enough wood/coal. This is also true of deer & wolves but less obvious.

Near the cave for TMW are a short "tunnel" that is very warm and allow cure guts.
Is after you jump from a rock over another bellow over a canyon (a one way path), for access the Runway Bridge. Not sure but think that after this bridge are another these tunnel.

Well, after more than ten days exploring and mapping much of the rest of Ash Canyon, and getting increasingly concerned by the shortage of food and scarcity of fuel to stay warm in cold caves, I finally made it over the bridge to Miner's Folly.

The first thing I did was crouch down to add some charcoal to my map and boom! the bear found me. Mauled (for the first time in a long time) but not badly, I patched myself up and without even resting to recover condition, went and killed the bear.

I have now found the Foreman's Retreat, harvested all of the bear, got its skin curing on the floor and, for the first time since I arrived in AC, now I am feeling relaxed about being here. Time to do some cooking, before getting a good night's sleep to get that condition back!

I really don't think that this bit of exploration would be nearly so memorable with that bear attack. Being on Day 694, I am so very glad I survived it relatively unscathed!
