Though, if you are on an achievement run in Pilgrim, or maybe Voyageur, and only want to get all skills to Lvl 5. sure. Use the revolver, and a bow and arrows to kill rabbits. Rabbits die in a single hit, only animal in the game that is guaranteed to die when hit, every time. And each hit will give a skill point, for revolver, or archery. Hell, rifle even. Still a waste of ammo/arrows (decay with each hit), but if you aren't worried about a long run, and are only going for the All 5s achievement... why not. Good practice for a later run, as you should get much better at aiming and using each different weapon.
I prefer snares for rabbits, and will make as many as I can, as soon as I have enough cured guts to do so.
