How random are the hidden transmitter caches?

Can people describe their experiences with the new hidden caches that you can find with the orange mode on the transmitter? I've found caches in Mystery Lake, Forsaken Airfield, Pleasant Valley, Forlorn Muskeg and Hushed River Valley so far, each with 2-3 of the cylindrical canisters. I've just been around Timberwolf Mtn. and Ash Canyon with auroras active and never once heard a peep from my transmitter with the orange mode. I was also really thorough in my search, from having found the canisters in the other regions I started getting a rough grasp of the range of the orange transmitter and overlapped my searches with an imaginary circle. I thought maybe there was some hidden mechanic the devs made with the transmitter, I thought maybe you could pick up the signals easier on higher elevations, or large mountainsides would occlude signals. No strategy yielded anything in TWM or AC.

I know these caches are random and in different locations in each play through, but for two of the major regions to not have a single one is just odd and a bit disappointing. Has anyone encountered a major region with no cache at all? Like maybe Mystery Lake or Coastal Hwy and never found anything? I can understand maps like Transfer Pass or Ravine not having any, but I was expecting at least one in each major region.

Have you repaired the transmitter at the Substation in Blackrock? That may be the reason you're not picking up any signals at Timberwolf Mountain or Ash Canyon.

According to my sources, only the 'major' regions have transmitter caches, but they all do have them. The smaller transition zones don't. Broken Railroad may be the smallest map that has them.

None of them are random. All are in the same places on each map but may spawn with a different tier of loot, ie clothes vs tools.

Wow did not know there were other transmitter towers outside the ones you fix in Signal Void, I since finished that story and never thought to check for other transmitters, thanks guys.

If you look in the backpack menu under transmitters it will show you the world map with the range of each discovered transmitter so you can see which regions they cover. It also tells you in the description for each.
