how to hunt ptarmigans?

I tried throwing rocks but they never seem to hit

I came across some in Ash Canyon but they run fast and fly away! lol

I hit it with rock, but couldn't have hit it with arrow yet

i believe the intended way to hunt them is with fire-hardened arrows but so far i've just been shooting the with my revolver because it's easier to sneak up on them that way if you don't have archery level 5

I've found that on certain maps you can actually herd them into flying into the side of cliffs so that they kind of slowly ascend while stuck on the cliff, making them easier targets for arrows and stuff. That's super cheese though.

Also does anyone know if a noisemaker would work wonder on them?

Best result to catch them for me is with arrows or fire-hardened arrows, managed to kill 2 in one flock before they scattered.

They don't seem that smart, a lot of the time I'll fire arrows at them, miss like 4 times before I get a hit, and sometimes they'll just.. stand there and be shot at.

or half the flock will leave, as expected, and the remaining two will kinda just... hang out.

I was noticing that, so if you HIT one, the entire flock goes, but if you miss only some go
