Sweet dishes cause a headache?
I have heard of an ice cream headache, but this is new to me.

Is this like a personal thing that someone put in the game? This is a diabetic symptom apparently.

People without diabetes can get high blood sugar spikes from too many carbs. It isn't just a thing that happens to people who do have diabetes.
And yes- in non-diabetic people too much sugar can cause headaches, water-retention, nausea, vomiting and "lower digestive disorders".

So I wouldn't call it "a diabetic symptom", It;'s a symptom of eating a large amount of carbs at once. Think of it more as the somewhat mythical "sugar crash" some competitive swimmers will report after eating a ton of sugary jello before a swim meet- lots of upset stomachs and headaches after they finish their races (hopefully not during or before).

Honestly, after having Type 1 IDDM for 52 years, too much sugar never gives me a headache. It makes me puke- violently at times. But my 'lil sis, who does not have diabetes but eats a seriously healthy diet, will get headaches if she over-indulges in a decadent desert (she'll never learn- she loves tiramisu, but it does not love her).

The game always has trade offs- Go Energy Drink will let you sprint like Florence Griffith Joyner, but you are going to have a pounding headache when it wears off. The new foods seem to have pros and cons to them just like that too. And since our survivors do not pee, poop or puke in the game (thankfully)- headache is one of the only reasonable debuffs from eating high sugar foods that is left. I really do not want to have to hear my survivor retching into a ditch a few hours after eating a peach pie.

Yeah, too much sugar is obviously bad for anyone.

I'm sure I would feel terrible if I tried to slurp down a whole can of condensed milk, or multiple chocolate bars at once. That does nothing in the game though, only the sweet pies have this effect.

It feels strange that you get a negative status from what is basically one serving of a normal pastry without any added sugar in the dough.

Oh, that's an interesting tidbit about the swimmers though. I presume they eat this jello to replenish the energy storages in the muscles?

Yeah, basically they did it to carb-load to get energy before their races, without making their stomachs heavy. I never could,. because with my diabetes, it would only make me sick.
And you're right, it does feel strange that most new special recipe foods have buffs + debuffs, but the peach pie has only debuffs, without giving a ton of extra calories. Katie never liked peaches. maybe? :spazdunno:
